On April 13, 2009, John Hernandez and his girlfriend, Ruby Hernandez, drove into the parking lot of Yeto’s Market in Saticoy to make a minor purchase at the store. Ruby entered the store while John waited in the car. When Ruby returned to the car, she began to drive out of the parking lot with John in the front passenger’s seat.
As Ruby drove out of the parking lot, an unknown suspect fired approximately six rounds into the car from the passenger’s side of the vehicle. Ruby drove out of the parking lot, and John told her he had been shot. Ruby took John to the Ventura County Medical Center where John was treated for an abdominal gunshot wound. Ruby suffered minor cuts to her back from either flying glass or bullet fragments. Both victims are expected to survive their injuries.
