Thousand Oaks Explorer Post #2933 Open House
By Anonymous — Tuesday, February 16th, 2010
The Thousand Oaks Police Department Explorer Program (Post #2933) is a volunteer program for Ventura County’s youth, which provides direction in leadership, responsibility, trust, and community service. The explorer program is affiliated with “Learning For Life,” and the goal of the program is to enable young people in becoming responsible individuals. This goal is achieved by teaching positive character traits, discipline, career development, and life skills so they can make responsible and ethical choices and achieve their full potential. On a continual basis, the Thousand Oaks Police Department Explorer Post receives training, which pertains to the vast field of law enforcement. Some of the training includes: investigations, K9, bike patrol, search and rescue, traffic related incidents, and tactical building searches. Under direct law enforcement supervision, explorers work traffic and security assignments at several community-oriented events throughout the year. Explorers earn post and community service hours for the time they volunteer to the program. The hours earned are put towards team building trips and in/out of state competitions with other explorer posts. The Thousand Oaks Police Department is looking for young, enthusiastic individuals ranging in age from 14-20, who want to have fun and learn about the field of law enforcement. Come and find out more about this exciting program on Tuesday, March 9, 2010, between the hours of 6PM to 9PM. Bring your empty stomachs! The Explorer Post will provide pizza and drinks for all in attendance. Teens and parents are welcome to attend!
