Dear Taxpayer,

While you slept Thursday morning, the Legislature passed a budget bill that will significantly increase your taxes.

I voted against the bill because California taxpayers already pay the highest sales and income tax in the nation. The last thing we should do is punish taxpayers for the misdeeds of the Legislature and Governor.

I have said this for years: California does not have a revenue problem; it has a spending problem. But here we are with a new budget "deal" that, more than anything, will lighten your wallet and increase your tax burden to the state.
