California Republican Party Statement on Falling Support for Gov. Brown's Tax Hike Proposal

SACRAMENTO, CA. — California Republican Party Chairman Tom Del Beccaro today issued the following statement regarding the latest PPIC poll showing a lack of support for Gov. Jerry Brown's budget proposal: "The latest PPIC poll indicates what Jerry Brown should have known all along -- Californians will not support more taxes designed to bailout Sacramento. Rather than attempt to tax his way out this mess, Brown should follow the lead of the Democrat Governor of New York, Andrew Cuomo, and offer real reductions in the state's bureaucracy and pension caps. "Brown should also take the advice of John Maynard Keynes when he said 'Nor should the argument seem strange that taxation may be so high as to defeat its object, and that, given sufficient time to gather the fruits, a reduction of taxation will run a better chance, than an increase, of balancing the budget.' "Californians intuitively understand that taxes are killing their jobs; it's about time Jerry Brown agreed with them." |
