In Memory of Army Paratrooper Ian Gelig

We are saddened by the news that Army Paratrooper Ian Gelig, a 25-year-old Stevenson Ranch resident, was killed this week while bravely serving in Afghanistan.

Ian, a 2002 graduate of Hart High School, was an 82nd Airborne Division Paratrooper and had been with the 782nd Brigade Support Battalion, 4th Brigade Combat Team since August 2009.

Ian is a true American hero and patriot whose bravery and commitment to the United States will be remembered for generations to come.

God bless Ian’s parents, Tim and Delia Gelig, and his two sisters, Vanessa and Liana Gelig, as they deal with the tragic death of their beloved son and brother.

President Obama's budget has added more than $100 billion in federal taxpayers' money to what is called "education," so that means it will be spent by alumni of the Saul Alinsky school of radical community organizing and/or the Chicago Democratic machine. On March 5th of last year, firefighter Travis Ulerick, of Dublin, Indiana, introduced President Barack Obama at a White House summit on health care. Upon hearing the first rumblings of dissent about the President’s plan, Ulerick tells USA Today he thought at the time: “I definitely think it’s going to have to be a huge consensus.” It’s now 12 months later, and the only consensus that exists among the American people is strong opposition to the President’s health care plan. The White House, however, is now completely uninterested in... http://blog.heritage.org/2010/03/03/morning-bell-no-votes-until-the-peop...

I am sending this to virtually everybody on my e-mail list and that includes conservatives, liberals, and everybody in between. Even though we disagree on a number of issues, I count all of you as friends. My friend and neighbor wants to promote a “Congressional Reform Act of 2009″. It would contain eight provisions, all of which would probably be strongly endorsed by those who drafted the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.

I know many of you will say, “this is impossible”. Let me remind you, Congress has the lowest approval of any entity in Government, now is the time when Americans will join together to reform Congress – the entity that represents us.

We need to get a Senator to introduce this bill in the US Senate and a Representative to introduce a similar bill in the US House. These people will become American hero's..

Thanks,
A Fellow American

SCA 29 Empowers Voters To Limit Government Control Over Healthcare

(Sacramento, CA) Today, Senator Strickland (R- Thousand Oaks), joined by Jon Coupal of the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association and John Graham, Director of Healthcare Studies at the Pacific Research Institute, held a press conference to announce the introduction of Senate Constitutional Amendment 29. The constitutional amendment would give California voters the opportunity to affect the enforcement of restrictive state or federal healthcare legislation by placing a measure on the ballot.

SCA 29 requires voter approval of any state or federal measure implementing a healthcare program that contains a provision mandating individuals to obtain health coverage, guarantee issuance of health coverage, creates a “pay or play” system for employers, creates a government entity to compete with private plans, or creates a single-payer healthcare system. Any healthcare program containing at least one of these provisions, created after January 1, 2010, would be subject to this voter approval requirement.

“This measure will ensure voters have a voice in the healthcare debate rather than allowing out-of-touch politicians to make costly and ineffective decisions regarding something as personal as the choice of a family doctor,” said Senator Strickland. “Polls have consistently shown voters want a healthcare system that addresses their concerns over cost, access, and quality. This does not mean they are asking for another government bureaucracy.”

Jon Coupal stated, “It is clear CONTINUED »

Runner bill will remove sex offenders from social websites

Last week I introduced legislation that will stop convicted sexual predators on parole from opening accounts with social websites like Facebook, Twitter, Myspace and any other site that qualifies as social networking.

I am a big fan of social network sites just like the next person, but unfortunately they create a virtual shopping mall for sex offenders on the prowl. With this bill, we're going to shut the door on these malicious, dangerous people who prey on innocent and unsuspecting children.

Senate Bill 1204 also requires sex offenders who have completed parole to register their email addresses with the California Department of Justice.

Sex offenders are already required to register their street addresses with local police per Megan's Law. In the past decade it's become obvious that Internet technology is a convenient means for predators to stalk potential victims. It only makes sense to require paroled sex offenders to share their email addresses with law enforcement."

If the bill passes, California would CONTINUED »

letter from California Common Cause to the Ventura County Board of Supervisors

Dear Ventura County Board of Supervisors,

Last week, citizens of Ventura County called our Los Angeles office branch of California Common Cause expressing concern about agenda item #32 for your upcoming meeting on Tuesday, February 23, 2010: Recommendation of Supervisors Bennett and Long to adopt Amendments to Ordinance No. 4395 Regarding the Ventura County Campaign Finance Reform Ordinance (“Ordinance”).

In the Sup. Bennett and Long letter, the ten-year track record of the Ordinance is described as giving candidates the ability to “effectively campaign and communicate with voters” and reduce the number of complaints to the Ethics Commission. Given the Supervisors’ stated reluctance to delete the independent expenditure contributions portion of the law, we encourage you to wait until and unless there is a definitive court ruling on that point.

In Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission, the Supreme Court decided only that corporations have a right to make political expenditures from general treasury funds. The court did not address the validity of laws limiting contributions by corporations to independent expenditure committees, and so has no direct bearing on Ventura County’s Ordinance.

The Continuing Consequences of AB 32

Serving the 17th District which incorporates portions of the Los Angeles, San Bernardino, Ventura and Kern counties.

Ever since Governor Schwarzenegger signed AB 32 (The Global Warming Solutions Act of 2006) into law, climate change has been the "it" issue of the day. In an effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, AB 32 transfers a huge amount of power to the unelected Air Resources Board without providing any real oversight or accountability. This risky move has produced some serious consequences.

Under the AB 32 umbrella, more legislation has popped up that prioritizes "going green" over California taxpayers and businesses; all following the trend of taking control and money away from elected governing bodies, and handing it to the Air Resources Board.

For example, in 2008 the Governor signed Senate Bill 375 into law. This new law takes control away from local governments by mandating that regional transportation agencies notify the state about how they will meet specific greenhouse-gas reduction targets as set by the ARB.

Another recently proposed piece of legislation, CONTINUED »

The Emma Maersk ,part of a Danish shipping line, is shown in the photos below. What a ship....no wonder 'Made in China ' is displacing North American made goods big time. This monster transports goods across the Pacific in about 5 days!!!

This is how Wal-Mart gets it's stuff from China. 15,000 containers and a 207'deck beam! The crew-size: 13 people on a ship longer than a US aircraft carrier (which has a crew of 5,000). Notice that 207'beam means it cannot fit through the Panama or Suez Canals.

It is strictly transpacific. Cruise speed: 31 knots. The goods arrive 4 days before the typical container ship (18-20 knots) on a China -to- California run. So this behemoth is hugely competitive when carrying perishable goods.

The ship was built in five sections. The sections floated together and then welded. The command bridge is higher than a 10-story building and has 11 cargo crane rigs that can operate simultaneously.

Additional info: Country of origin - Denmark, Length - 1,302 ft, Width - 207 ft, Net cargo - 123,200 tons, Engine - 14 cylinders in-line diesel engine (110,000 BHP),
Cruise Speed - 31 knots, Cargo capacity - 15,000 TEU (1 TEU = 20 cubic feet), Crew - 13 people!, First Trip - Sept. 08, 2006, Construction cost - US $145,000,000+, Silicone painting applied to the ship bottom reduces water resistance and saves 317,000 gallons of diesel per year.

A recent documentary in late March on the History Channel noted that nearly all of these containers are shipped back to China, EMPTY. Yep, that's right. We send nothing back on most of these ships. What does that tell you about the current financial state of this country? Just keep buying those imported goods (mostly gadgets) until you run out of money. Then you may wonder what the cause of unemployment in the U.S. and Canada might be????

Letter by Dennis L. Guthrie

Dear Ms. Pelosi:

I write to you out of utter disdain! You are as despicable and un-American as the traitor Jane Fonda.

I am a soon to be 65 year-old who has voted in every state and local election since 1966. I have voted for both Republicans and Democrats alike. I have worked on campaigns for both Republicans and Democrats, white and black. I served the country that I love in Vietnam, as my son did in the Middle East. I was awarded two bronze stars. I have been involved in politics since age 6 when my father was campaign manager for a truly great American Congressman, Charles Raper Jonas, who worked for his constituents and his country, and was to be admired, unlike you.

You obviously haven’t read the Constitution recently, if ever, the Federalist Papers, or even David McCullough’s book on John Adams. You ought to take the time while riding around in your government provided luxury executive jet to do just that. You represent Socialistic and even Marxist principals that our founding fathers tried to avoid when setting out the capitalistic republican form of government represented by our Constitution.

I find it interesting that you and your husband are multi-millionaires with much of your fortune being made as a result of your “public service”. You have controlled legislation that has enhanced your husband’s investments both on and off shore. At the same time you redistributed the wealth of others. Our system of a free market economy is being destroyed by the likes of you, Harry Reid, and now our President. You ride around in a Gulfstream airplane at the tax payer’s expense while criticizing the presidents of companies who produced something for the economy. You add nothing to the economy of the United States; you only subtract therefrom.

I would like to suggest that you return to the city of fruitcakes and nuts and eat your husband’s canned tuna and pineapple produced by illegal immigrants and by workers who have been excluded from the protection that 90% of the legal workers in the United States have.

I await your defeat in the next election with glee.

Don’t ever use the term “un-American” again for protesters who love this country and are exercising their rights upon which this country was founded. By the way, while I served in the Army, I was spit on by the same type of lunatics who support you and who you probably supported in the 60’s and 70’s. You are an embarrassment to all of us who served so that you would have the protected right of free speech to call us un-American. But at the same time, I have the right to write you to notify you that I consider you to be un-American, as do the majority of the people of this formerly great country. You are a true disgrace to most of the people who served this country by offering themselves for public service in the United States Congress.

I feel certain your aides will not share this letter with you, but I intend to share it with many.

Sincerely,

Dennis L. Guthrie

The media has told us what the Navy’s top admiral, Mike Mullen, thinks about “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell”; but why is the media censoring other, contrary military voices?

Regardless of whether you are for or against open homosexuality in the military, you have to be dismayed at how badly biased media coverage of this issue has become. Indeed, it seems that, to the Big Media, there is only one legitimate and morally correct point of view, and that is to repeal “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,” and to allow gays to serve openly within the ranks.

Tomorrow, NBC (which is owned by General Electric) will begin broadcasting the 2010 Winter Olympics from Vancouver, Canada. Only two events are scheduled for the opening day (alpine skiing and ski jumping), but even those events will be difficult to pull off. Why? There is no snow in Vancouver. And International Olympic Committee President Jacques Rogge knows exactly what is to blame: global warming. Rogge tells AFP: “Global warming of course is a worry, it is a worry for the entire world.”

In 2010, along with my Republican colleagues, I will continue to make job creation and economic recovery the number one priority. In the coming weeks, we plan to introduce and support bills that improve the jobs climate.

As a matter of fact, everything that the Legislature does this year should be viewed from the perspective of its impacts on California jobs – every bill, every budget line-item, and every regulation.

The first action is to stop California jobs from fleeing our state. With a 12.4 percent unemployment rate, translating to 2.25 million Californians out of work, the Legislature needs to stop jobs from leaving the state. Republican Legislators will continue to stand united in 2010 in opposition to tax increases and job killer bills.

Next, we must restore California's Competitive Job Creation Climate.

For decades, California was a leader and innovator in CONTINUED »
