SACRAMENTO – Sen. George Runner (R-Antelope Valley) released the following statements regarding the passage of the Democrats’ prison bill, Senate Bill 18xxx, this evening:

“California inmates are the only winners with the passage of this bill because now they will receive ‘good time’ credits just for showing up to prison instead of actually earning the early release credits through either work or education.

“Here’s an example of how the standard proposed in SB 18xxx works: The drug pushing felon with the firearm would be rewarded with one day of early release credit for every day of ‘continuous incarceration.’

“This is an early release gimmick cloaked in bureaucratic machinations. Why won’t the Democrats be honest about the intent of this bill and just cut sentences in half? Because ultimately, that’s what this bill will do.”
