Fillmore High Alumni Association The May issue of the alumni newsletter, Flashbacks was put in the mail on Monday, so you subscribers should have received it by the time you read this in the Gazette. Some cities are slower than others, but if you don't receive your copy by next Monday please call the alumni office at 805-524-0416. Or if you have moved or changed your mailing address, please let us know that also. Kathleen McCreary has done another excellent job of putting the information, that alumni members have sent in, into this issue. If you have any comments or information you would like to see in the August issue, please send it in to the alumni office. The May meeting of the alumni board of directors was held Monday night, and the main item of discussion was the alumni dinner, which is coming up on June 12 at the Memorial Building. Six classes are planning reunions, several of which will be held in conjunction with the alumni dinner, so be sure to get your reservations in for the dinner as soon as possible. A reservation form is on the back of this issue of Flashbacks and can also be obtained on the alumni website: www.fillmorehighalumni.com. Also discussed at the board meeting was the developing of the DVD to bring to light the history of the 99 game football series between Fillmore and Santa Paula, which will be highlighted by the 100th game to be played in November in Fillmore. Isaac Reyes, a graduate of Fillmore High is developing the DVD with interviews with former players of some of those games and snippets of films from games played during the previous seasons. The DVD will be available on November 1, but orders for the DVD will be taken starting with the alumni dinner on June 12. A short preview of the film will also be shown at the dinner. Assisting Joe Woods and his committee with the Fillmore Sports Hall of Fame has helped the alumni obtain some new addresses for their files. It is important that alumni members let the alumni office know of changes in their mailing and e-mail addresses so information can be sent to them when necessary. Efforts continue to get more alums to subscribe to the alumni newsletter, which is distributed each February, May, August and November. Your subscription not only provides the newsletter, but it also helps keep the alumni association operating. A subscription form can be obtained from the alumni office or on the alumni website under FORMS and APPLICATIONS. The cost is $20 per year, or a Life Membership at $150 provides the newsletter for as long as you live, but most importantly it provides financial support for the alumni association. The Shasta Daisy project is up and growing, thanks to Kirk Richter and his Landscaping classes at the high school, and some flowers will be available for the junior arches at this year's graduation ceremonies. Daisies, spelling out FLASHES have been planted on the east side of the football field and are visible from the bleachers. More daisies will be needed for this year's arches, so if anyone has some Shasta Daisies at their home that the Juniors can have on June 9 or 10, please contact the high school at 524-6100. |
