Your memory often changes as you grow older. But memory loss that disrupts daily life is not a typical part of aging. It may be a symptom of dementia. Dementia is a slow decline in memory, thinking and reasoning skills. Caregiver support groups are designed to provide emotional, educational and social support for caregivers through regularly scheduled meetings. They help participants develop methods and skills to solve problems. The groups encourage caregivers to maintain their own personal, physical land emotional health, as well as optimally care for the person with dementia. Fillmore Senior Center offers support groups in both English and Spanish. 524-4533

Friday, October 4th at 10:30 AM we will have our annual “FALL PREVENTION” Fall prevention may not seem like a lively topic, but it’s important. As you get older, physical changes and health conditions and sometimes the medications used to treat those conditions make falls more likely. In fact, falls are a leading cause of injury among older adults. Still, fear of falling doesn’t need to rule your life. Instead, Physical Therapist, Karen Swisher will educate you on Fall-prevention with easy strategies to help you feel more informed, comfortable and safe. Please bring your walkers &/or canes with you, even wheel chairs if you use non- electric ones and they will check them to be sure they are adjusted properly for you.
