Starbucks Coffee
Starbucks Coffee House continues to provide the morning treats for the Senior Center, so a special thank you to the local shop. They missed a few days last week because their extras were given to the Red Cross for military who were shipping out. The seniors were happy to “support the troops” in this way.
Braille Mobile
The Braille Institute in Santa Barbara will bring their mobil unit to the Senior Center parking lot on Tuesday, April 27th from 10-2. They will have many items for sale for the sight impaired. The Braille Institute has classes and many ways of helping the blind and those with failing sight. If any member of your family is in need of help, bring them for this no cost assistance. The Center will be open from 8 to 1 that day and Tuesday is one of the days that an outstanding salad bar will be served with the noon meal. Call and make a reservation now. ( 524-4533) You may “come for the help” and “stay for the food.” Seniors may eat free or make a $2.25 donation to the meal fund.
Area Agency on Aging
Arrangements have been made by the Area Agency on Aging for needy seniors to ride the bus to the Center for meals with tokens provided through the kitchen. Any senior who needs help with transportation for meals may ask Toni for details to secure tokens.
Computer Class
The beginning computer class has a waiting list. Any senior who would like to learn about using a PC should get their name on the list for a future class. A class to learn WORD and EXCEL may be started in the near future if there is an interest.
Tai Chi Class
The tai chi class continues “to slowly move” and adds new members almost every week. If you want exercise, this is a good group to join every Wednesday at 9 a.m. Our own Dan Roatcap is the instructor. The suggested donation is $2 a week.
Food Donations
The Center welcomes food donations from spring gardens or fruit. The salad bar always can use additional avocados. If you have fresh items to share, call Pat Rees 524-2809. If there is extra, it will be given to seniors at the Center.
Wii Bowling
The Wii bowling groups are both busy preparing for a tournament next fall. Beginners are welcome to come and learn with lots of fun to go with good exercise. (See our ad on Channel 10.)
Board Meeting
The monthly Board meeting at the Senior Center is held the 4th Monday of each month at 10 a.m. If you want to know “what is going on” and help with the planning, it is open to the public.
