Fillmore Flashes Wrestlers Compete at High Desert Duals Tournament

By Girls Head Coach Michael Torres On Saturday, December 14, Lancaster, CA – The Fillmore Flashes wrestling team competed in the High Desert Duals Tournament at Lancaster High School. The tournament began on a high note for Fillmore in Round 1, as they defeated Excelsior High School with a dominating 44-0 victory. In Round 2, Fillmore received a bye. In Round 3 the Flashes lost to Golden Valley High School, 66-18. In Round 4, the Flashes lost to Adelanto High School, 66-12. In Round 5, the team bounced back, securing a strong 36-18 win over Junípero Serra Catholic High School. Round 6 brought a dramatic showdown against Dos Pueblos, where Fillmore tied the match 34-34. However, due to the 6th tie breaking criteria—where the team with the fewest forfeits prevails—Fillmore was edged out by Dos Pueblos and lost. Fillmore had some standout individual performances. Tony Lemus took 1st place going undefeated in the 120 lbs weight class. Emiliano Castanon (144 lbs) and Brendan Morales (165 lbs) each earned 2nd place finishes. Additionally, Brennon Ballard earned a well-deserved 3rd place finish in the 150 lbs category. The Fillmore Flashes’ next two home meets will be Wednesday, January 8th vs. Channel Islands HS (Youth Night) and Wednesday, January 15th vs. Nordhoff HS (Senior Night) both Citrus Coast League matches are scheduled to start at 5:30pm at the FHS Gym.
