A note from coach Lolita Bowman.
We celebrated our first win against Santa Clara High School on September 17. Hearing the girls scream; yes scream, for joy was just an experience I will always remember. Countless serves and backhand drills came to fruition as the final score was Fillmore ten, Santa Clara eight. The line-up for Fillmore was as follows. Playing singles was Emilia Magdaleno, Heillyn Burr, and Maritza Campos. The doubles teams were Melissa Higuera/Rosalyn Diaz, Sofia Cardenas/Eveleen Lizarraga, and Ashlin Rodriguez /Jennifer Carillo. All three singles players scored an equal six points for Fillmore including doubles teams Melissa/Rosalyn and Eveleen/Sofia scoring four points. I want to congratulate our number two singles player Heillyn for winning her match against Santa Clara’s number one singles player. Heillyn worked hard and her final score was 6-4. Great job Heillyn! This girl is so competitive along with the entire team. These girls strive to play to the best of their ability and I am proud to be a part of their high school years of competitive sports. I believe that playing on the tennis team is instilling confidence and reliability. Being reliable is a big deal for this team as they are not allowed to play in the next match for failing to communicate when they cannot attend practice. To end, all I know is that the girls are having a great time on the tennis courts and that is what matters. Go lady Flashes!
