Flashes Football Prepares to Kick Off 2024 Football Season

On Friday, August 16, Flashes JV and Varsity Football teams hosted their annual Blue & White Scrimmage game as they prepared to kick off the 2024 Football season this Friday, August 23, at home against Royal High School JV4pm & Varsity 7pm. Ed., Flashes Head Football Coach “Last Friday the Flashes wrapped up training camp with the annual Blue vs. White scrimmage. In a tough match up, Team White took the victory over team Blue. Coaches Danny Nunez and Brock Nunez led their squads. Angel Avila, Senior kicker, made the game winning field goal. This week the Flashes kick off their regular season with a home matchup against Royal high school, from Simi Valley. JV will start at 4pm and Varsity at 7pm. August 23rds game against Royal is also an Educator Appreciation Game where all FUSD Employees get free admission to the game and seniors on the team will be honoring educators who have made a profound impact on their time in school here in Fillmore. In 2024, the Flashes are excited to take on the new challenges of the Tri-County League and look forward to facing one of the most difficult schedules in school history. The Bolts welcome back returning stars Daniel Viveros, Anthony Tafoya, Ray Curiel, Joey Ocegueda, and JoJo Cruz. Daniel Viveros is a senior who starts at Left Tackle and Defensive Tackle who was named to the all-league, all-county, and all-CIF teams last season as a Junior. Anthony Tafoya is a third year returning starter at Quarterback for the Flashes. Anthony has already broken the school records for single season and career passing totals. Ray Curiel and Joey Ocegueda are returning two-way starters and stars. Both were named to the all-league and all-county teams in 2023. JoJo Cruz is a senior Running back who amassed over 1000 yards of total offense and 9 touchdowns as a junior on his way to being named to the all-league team in 2023. The Flashes have had three consecutive playoff appearance seasons including back-to-back league championships in 2022 and 2023. This team is looking forward to continuing the tradition of excellence that Fillmore Football has established. Now, let’s pack the stadium on Friday to support this amazing school and community. “ |
