Two former members of the Fillmore girls cross country team led Moorpark Community College this year. They traded off the top two positions on the team throughout the season, and were instrumental in Moorpark qualifying for the State Final this past Saturday in Fresno. Due to the flu, Alianna Tapia was unable to compete in the State meet. Teammate Vanessa Avila however led the Raider quartet, a non-scoring team, by finishing in 43rd place in 20:01.8.

Rey Laureano, also Fillmore Ali no competed at Apalachee Regional Park in Tallahassee, Florida as a member of the Westmont Cross Country team. In the team competition, Westmont finished in 17th place. Rey finished the 8,000 kilometer race in 27:37.3.

On November 11th, Camilo Torres led the Cal State University, Northridge Matadors to the NCAA Division 1 West Regional Finals. This race was run at Chambers Creek Regional Park in University Place, Washington. There the men’s team finished in 27th place. Camilo was the team’s top finisher, capturing 121st place in 30:57.7. He also broke the CSUN 10k Division I school record for freshmen. The previous record was set in 2014. Camilo was also selected the male student/athlete for the week of November 14th.

On Friday, November 11th the Fillmore Raiders Bantam Silver and Juniors Black teams traveled to SoFi Stadium to compete in the Super Bowl. Bantams Silver also traveled to SoFi Stadium however, they lost to Valley Rush but took 2nd place for their National League. Juniors Black defeated Santa Barbara in the Super Bowl and claimed the title of National Champions for their league. Congratulations to both teams on and amazing season! Congrats as well to the Raiders Mighty Mites Silver for claiming the Championship for the American League against Newbury Park on Saturday, November 5th in Ventura. The Raider Bantams Black took 2nd place in the American League. A great season for the Fillmore Youth Raiders Football program!

Juniors Black went undefeated during the regular season with a record of 7-0 to claim the number one seed in the National Conference (Division 1). They currently stand with a record of 9-0 after winning both rounds of play-off games. Your Fillmore Raiders Division 1 Juniors Black will face the Santa Barbara Saints in an unforgettable game. The top two singles players and the top two doubles teams qualify for the CIF Sectionals on November 21st. The third place singles and doubles teams are the alternates.

 

On Friday the Fillmore Cross Country teams competed at the prestigious Mt. San Antonio College Cross Country Invitational. The first 100 yards of the course are over pavement, followed by two flat loops, finally three major climbs, and several smaller climbs. This is also where postseason CIF Divisional meets will be contested.

Fillmore had one competitor in the boy’s freshman race. Philip Jimenez finished in 98th place in a time of 24:08. The freshman girls followed, with two competitors, Leah Barragan who finished in an impressive 7th place in 22:48 and Hailey Robledo who finished 40th placed 40th in 26.34.

Newcomer Omar Heredia was the lone runner for the Flashes in the sophomore boys race. Omar finished in 90th place in 21:35. Jacqueline Olivares ran to 63rd place finish in the girls sophomore race, finishing in 28:26.

Three runners toed the starting line in the girls JV race. Liliana Montejano led this group, finishing in 22nd place in 25:10. She was followed by Tiffany Velasco 30th in 25:47 and Cassandra Valdovinos 48th in 27:05. In the boys JV race Fillmore’s 3 competitors were led by Samuel Ramirez 38th in 21:40. He was followed by Juan Cumatz 50th in 22:00, and Vicente Lopez 96th in 24:05.

Fillmore sent a team of 6 athletes to compete in the Varsity boys division. Eddie Vigil led the team finishing in 12th place in a time of 16:48. He was followed by Angel Garcia 28th in 17:36, Diego Ramirez 31st in 17:43, Joshua Estrada 38th in 18:01, Nicholas Hurtado 43rd in 18:10, and Angel Laureano 81st in 19:17. In the team competition, Fillmore finished in 5th place.

The top performing team for the Flashes was the Varsity girls. They were led by Nataly Vigil who finished 7th in 20:25. She was followed by Niza Laureano 10th in 20:46, Diana Santa Rosa 24th in 21:42, Andrea Laureano 34th in 22:06, Alexandra Martinez 53rd in 23:08, and Monique Hurtado 64th in 23:48. Nataly was the top finisher for the Flashes on the day. In the team competition, this was our top finish. The girls brought home a runner-up plaque.

The Flashes Cross Country teams will now prepare for League Finals on Thursday, November 3rd at Lake Casitas in Ojai. This meet will start at 2:00 p.m.

On Tuesday, the Citrus Coast League cross country teams met in Fillmore to complete in the second of three meets to determine League standings. Fillmore, Carpinteria, Channel Islands, Hueneme, Malibu, Nordhoff, and Santa Paula ran over the 3-mile dirt course that includes a couple of small rises.

The junior varsity boys started the day. They were led by Sammy Ramirez who finished in 4th place in a time of 20:21.35. He was followed by Omar Heredia 6th in 20:32.48, Juan Cumatz 10th in 21:00.41, Adan Topete 21st in 21:50.61, Vicente Lopez 24th in 22:41.83, Juan Castro 40th in 26:33.73, and Alexander Diaz 46th in 28:09.53. In the team competition, the Fillmore Junior Varsity team finished in second.

The Varsity Girls followed. They were led by Nataly Vigil who finished in second place. Her time was 20:16.93. She was followed by Niza Laureano 3rd in 20:28.66, Andrea Laureano 5th in 21:17.29, Diana Santa Rosa 9th in 21:46.18, Leah Barragan 11th in 22:34.03, Alexandra Martinez 13th in 22:40.67, and Monique Hurtado 22nd in 23:40.40. In the team competition, the Varsity Girls finished in first place.

The Varsity Boys were led by sophomore Eduardo Vigil. Eddie ran a great race and looked strong throughout finishing in second place in a time of 17:02.46. He was followed by Nicholas Hurtado 10th in 18:02.69, Joshua Estrada 13th in 18:12.01, Angel Garcia 14th in 18:14.75, Diego Ramirez 16th in 18:24.36, and Angel Laureano 18th in 18:39.62. In the team competition, Fillmore captured 1st place.

In the girls Junior Varsity Lorena Rangel Perez led all finishers posting a time of 23:04.07. She was followed by Liliana Montejano who finished in second in 23:42.55, Cassandra Valdovinos 5th in 24:34.32, Tiffany Velasco 10th in 25:22.62, Miley Tello 13th in 25:58.66, Luz Castaneda Navarro 15th in 27:13.77, Jacqueline Olivares 17th in 27:19.36, Natalie Perez 22nd in 27:52.04, Jannet Vega 28th in 29:27.60, Alexa Martinez 30th in 30:10.93, and Christine Nguyen 33rd in 31:34.13. In the team competition the Fillmore girls finished in first.

The Flashes cross country teams will now travel to Walnut, California on Friday, October 21st to compete in the Mt. SAC Invitational. This meet will start around noon.
