 On June 11, at approximately 2:07pm, Fillmore Patrol Deputies responded to a disturbance in the area of Third and Clay Street in the City of Fillmore. The Sheriff’s Communication Center received several calls reference hearing gunshots in the area. Upon arrival, deputies located evidence of a shooting. Detectives from the Sheriff’s Office West County Special Enforcement Unit and Major Crimes responded and were on scene to assist with the investigation. Copter 9 was called in to try and locate any suspects. Anyone with information pertaining to this incident is encouraged to contact the dispatch line (805-654-9511) or Crime Stoppers. On June 7, 2024, at approximately 12:40 AM, Fillmore Patrol deputies responded to a disturbance in the 300 block of Foothill Drive in the city of Fillmore. Our Sheriff’s Communication Center received several calls reporting a large fight, hearing gunshots, and a traffic accident in the area. Upon arrival, deputies determined a hit and run collision occurred and located evidence of a shooting. Detectives from the Sheriff’s Office West County Special Enforcement Unit and Major Crimes Bureau responded to assist with the investigation.  On Thursday evening, June 6, Fillmore deputies responded to a large fight involving 15-20 subjects. Deputies arrived and made attempts to break up the fight. As additional deputies arrived, the involved subjects fled the area. No injuries were reported and SRO’s are working with Fillmore patrol detectives to identify the aggressors in an ongoing investigation. Enlarge Photo |

 On Tuesday, June 4, around 10:45 p.m., a patrol sergeant contacted three juveniles who were in a parked vehicle at Blaine Avenue and B Street. During the contact, the sergeant observed what appeared to be a handgun in plain view on the floorboard of the vehicle. The sergeant called for additional resources and the juveniles were ordered out of the vehicle for officer safety reasons. A search of the vehicle revealed the firearm was a pellet gun. Based on the investigation, all three juveniles were cited and released for violation of curfew, possession of marijuana, and possession of graffiti tools. Enlarge Photo |

n collaboration with Farm Watch, the Fillmore Bureau of Investigation communicated crime trends identified from recent agricultural thefts occurring in the Santa Clara Valley. Empowering the agricultural community as our eyes and ears has contributed to the apprehension of an agricultural theft group. On 06/09/2024, deputies assigned to the Fillmore Patrol Station responded to a call-for-service at a local ranch reference an avocado theft. The reporting party provided Sheriff’s Dispatch detailed information, which led to patrol resources locating the suspect vehicle fleeing the area. An enforcement stop was conducted on the vehicle, which was determined to be occupied by several individuals; all of which resided out of the area in Norwalk, CA. A search of the vehicle resulted in the recovery of hundreds of pounds of stolen avocados. David Melchor, Jesus Pozos, Valentin Pozos, and Epifania Pozos were arrested for felonious violations of Penal Code § 487(b)(1)(a) – [Agricultural Grand Theft] and 182(a)(1) – [Criminal Conspiracy]. They were also arrested for Penal Code § 602.8(a) – [Trespassing]. The stolen avocados were returned to the ranch while all four subjects were booked at the Ventura County Pre-Trial Detention Facility pending court proceedings. The Fillmore Patrol Station encourages the agricultural community to utilize “Farm Watch,” a partnership between the farming community and the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office. Farm Watch is a county-wide electronic neighborhood watch program that is distributed to more than several hundred farms, ranches, nurseries, and supply houses. This program provides information to ranchers on agriculture crime trends and on how to react and treat the crime scene so that potential evidence is preserved for immediate processing by deputies of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office.  On Wednesday, June 5, at 9:19 p.m., Ventura County Fire Department, AMR Paramedics, and California Highway Patrol were investigating a two-vehicle collision that resulted with a Jeep plunging into a ditch in the 1700 block of Grimes Canyon Road, Bardsdale.  The Sierra High and Heritage Valley Independent Study graduation ceremony at the Fillmore District Office, on June 5 celebrated a total of 53 graduates. Highlights included inspiring speeches from two student speakers, one being Lexi Martinez, honored as Sierra High’s Student of the Year. Superintendent Christine Schieferle shared encouraging words during the ceremony, and longtime independent study teacher Ms. Wojciecowski delivered and impactful keynote address. School Board president Olivia Palacio conferred the graduates, making it a truly memorable event for the graduates and everyone in attendance.
