WASHINGTON, DC— U.S. Rep. Elton Gallegly (R-CA) was appointed to the Ronald Reagan Centennial Commission today by House Minority Leader John Boehner of Ohio.
Gallegly authored the bill that created the commission and is the second person assigned to the 11-member commission. Secretary of Interior Ken Salazar was named to the commission in the bill.
“Elton Gallegly was instrumental to the creation of this commission and it’s terrific that he’ll be actively involved in the celebration of Ronald Reagan’s centennial,” said Frederick J. Ryan, Jr., Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation.
The 11-member Ronald Reagan Centennial Commission Act will plan and carry out activities deemed fitting to honor Ronald Reagan on his 100th birthday, which falls on Feb. 6, 2011.
“I appreciate Leader Boehner’s appointment,” Gallegly said. “I look forward to working with my fellow commissioners to create appropriate activities to honor President Reagan and to celebrate his life and accomplishments on behalf of the country he loved.” CONTINUED »

This week we are witnessing the Senate confirmation hearings for Sonia Sotomayor, Barack Obama's ultra-liberal nominee for the Supreme Court.

The balance of the Court is precarious; every critical Constitutional decision in the past few years has come down to a 5 to 4 vote. One such case was just decided by the Court last month, in what will undoubtedly be one of this nation's landmark court cases regarding discrimination.

The Individual Rights Foundation (IRF)- the Freedom Center's powerful legal arm, served as a friend of the court in the now-famous case, Frank Ricci, et al. v. John DeStefano, et al. ... or as it is sometimes referred to, the New Haven Firefighters case. Frank Ricci won this case and will be appearing as a key witness during the Sotomayor hearings.

Before going further, I have to ask for your help. Because it is effective, the IRF is taking on more and more worthwhile cases - solely or in action with other groups. CONTINUED »

The bad news continues to pour in as California faces the worst recession since the 1930’s.

First, California lost over 100,000 manufacturing jobs over the past year and nearly 1,500 manufacturing jobs in November. In fact, over 536,000 jobs have been lost in the sector since the decline started in Dec. 2000 -- nearly a 28 percent decline.

While most western state’s manufacturing sectors have also lost jobs, California’s manufacturing situation is far worse. As a matter of fact, California’s costs to do business is 24 percent higher than the national average and contributes to its manufacturing segments lagging behind key western states which compete for manufacturing jobs – jobs that provide (or did provide) hard working California families with upwardly mobile, high paying job opportunities.

The second major problem is that since January of 2001 the private sector has experienced a 2% decline in jobs. Given the recession we are living through, that would provide a great deal of explanation. Unfortunately, during the same time period, government jobs have grown 7%. This is the wrong way street California has been driving on throughout this decade and long before the recession amplified the problem. The only economic sectors California policies are designed to grow are those in government, and we will pay the price for that emphasis in the future – if not now.

California cannot hire itself out of this recession. The state needs to encourage private sector employment, which generates wealth. Hiring more state bureaucrats merely shifts money from the private sector to the government, where waste and inefficiency abounds.

SACRAMENTO – Sen. George Runner (R-Antelope Valley) today announced he is stepping down from his role as chairman of the Senate Republican Caucus to allow more time to focus on the Vote SAFE initiative – slated for the November 2010 ballot – and his bid for membership on the Board of Equalization, district 2, also in 2010.

“Serving as Caucus chairman has been an honor,” Runner said. “But the position requires extensive time and energy and involves exceptional multi-tasking, and right now my energy and focus is on strengthening the integrity of our state’s voting process for the people of California and on winning the BOE race to serve as a defender of taxpayers.”

Runner has held the position of Caucus chairman since 2005, a year after he was first elected to the Senate. During this time, Runner has spearheaded caucus movements to overhaul sex offender laws in the state; stimulate California’s economy; streamline government and maximize limited taxpayers’ dollars; and reform health care through creating more patient access and affordability. Pamela "Atlas" Geller began her publishing career at The New York Daily News and subsequently took over operation of The New York Observer as Associate Publisher. She left The Observer after the birth of her fourth child, but remained involved in various projects including American Associates, Ben Gurion University and being Senior Vice-President Strategic Planning and Performance Evaluation at The Brandeis School.

After 9/11, "Atlas" had the veil of oblivion violently lifted from her consciousness and immersed herself in the education and understanding of geopolitics, Islam, terror, foreign affairs and imminent threats the mainstream media and the government wouldn't cover or discuss. To wit:

I am a student of history. Professionally, I have written 15 books in six languages, and have studied history all my life. I think there is something monumentally large afoot, and I do not believe it is just a banking crisis, or a mortgage crisis, or a credit crisis. Yes, these exist but they are merely single facets on a very large gemstone that is only now coming into a sharper focus. CONTINUED »

It is interesting that the cabal (Walker, Washburn, Sipes, Creagle, Westling, Stroh, Brooks) that has taken over city government based upon a campaign to “Take Back Our Town” and by creating a hostile work environment for long-term management employees who they claimed did not care about the community, used the accomplishments of those management employees they chased out of the city in their recruitment efforts to attract a new city manager.
The front cover of the recruitment brochure for Fillmore City Manager has pictures of: 1) Fillmore City Hall; 2) Fillmore Public Works Yard; 3) Fillmore & Western train; and 4) the phrase “The Last Best Small Town”. Ironically, all of these items were developed and brought to fruition under the careful guidance, vision and leadership of the previous city hall administrators (Roy Payne, Tom Ristau, and Barbara Smith).
The recruitment brochure goes on to highlight the attributes of the community by discussing: 1) the central business district and its amenities; 2) new Senior Housing in the downtown (Parkview Apartments); 3) the City’s partnership with the Fillmore and Western Railroad; 4) establishment of the new business park; 5) new community park; 6) reopening of the City’s community swimming pool; 7) new housing and retail spaces; 8) Neo-Classical designed City Hall; 9) Central Park Plaza; 10) wine tasting at Geissinger Winery; 11) the historic Towne Theatre; and 12) Museums and antique shops. The City Manager job announcement states “the City’s operating budget is $13 million with prudent reserves attributed to conservative spending policies”. Again, all of these items were developed and brought to fruition under the careful guidance, vision, leadership and prudent fiscal management of the previous city hall administrators (Roy Payne, Tom Ristau, and Barbara Smith). A Nation at a Crossroads This July 4th

This July 4th, we celebrate our 223rd anniversary as an independent nation, with all of the freedoms and liberties attached to being a citizen of the United States. Our Founding Fathers fought to create a nation whose limited government respects individual rights.

We have come far from those early days. Indeed, the stars on the flag have increased, as we have transformed from a colonial outpost to the most powerful country in the world. What was once a largely rural, agrarian society has grown to become a mostly urbanized, industrial nation. We began as a nation that tolerated slavery and racial injustice and became a nation tolerant of people from all over the world.

As a nation, we have arrived at another crossroad—whether to maintain the Founding Fathers’ philosophy of limited government power and control or to embrace exactly the opposite with the continued expansion of government’s scope and power. A government that was once created merely to facilitate commerce and protect individual rights now finds itself enmeshed in industry, finance, and if President Obama has his way, healthcare.

The United States stands on the cusp of the biggest expansion of government in generations. The government involves itself in areas beyond the scope of the Founders’ original intentions. With greater government involvement comes fewer freedoms—as companies that accepted bailout money are discovering—as will states that accept strings-attached bailout money. Will future generations look back at what we do today with admiration or derision? CONTINUED »

Governor Calls Legislature into Prop 58 Special Session, Issues Executive Order to Impose Three Furloughs per Month

Following the legislature’s inability to pass a comprehensive solution to solve California’s entire $24.3 billion deficit, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger today proclaimed a fiscal emergency and called a Proposition 58 legislative special session to address this emergency. Additionally, the Governor exercised his executive authority to save cash for vital state functions and services by ordering three furlough days every month.

“Though the legislature failed to solve our budget problem yesterday, rest assured that solving the entire deficit remains my first and only priority, and I will not rest until we get it done. I will not be a part of pushing this crisis down the road - the road stops here,” said Governor Schwarzenegger.

Yesterday, the Governor followed through on his promise to veto any budget bills sent to him by the legislature that failed to solve for the entire deficit. Furthermore, the Governor today announced that he will not sign any legislation until a solution for the entire budget deficit is in place. CONTINUED »
