Dear FUSD Community,
Happy Holidays! As we wrap up 2022, I wanted to share how grateful I am to serve as your Superintendent. I would like to thank our amazing students, staff, families, and communities of Fillmore and Piru for your support. We will continue to remain student-focused and work relentlessly to provide the necessary resources and support so all students can thrive both inside and outside of our classrooms. Reflecting on this past semester, we have been able to celebrate passing a facilities bond, bringing parent volunteers back into our classrooms, full-schedule athletic events, and music and drama performances. Cheers to 2023 and the great things to come for our students in the Fillmore Unified School District! Enjoy the holiday break and we look forward to welcoming our students back to school on January 11, 2023.

On behalf of the FUSD Governing Board, I wish you a joyful holiday season and a safe and happy new year.

Sincerely,
Christine Schieferle
Superintendent
Fillmore Unified School District

On November 17th, students at San Cayetano Elementary enjoyed an entertaining presentation from The NED Show, a school wide character education program that promotes a culture of kindness and excellence in the school setting. On Saturday, the FMS Robotics team went to their first ever qualifying tournament, making it to the next qualifying round. They should be so proud of themselves—this is really a big accomplishment! The team came prepared, and they worked well together. Let’s congratulate them and wish them luck for their competition on December 4th! Courtesy Fillmore Middle School Blog.

We are so proud to say that today it was standing room only for our seniors applying for community colleges! The excellent Ventura College support team came today and approximately 50 students completed their applications all at once! Did you know that there is one application for 116 of California’s community colleges? You can find out more at https://home.cccapply.org/en/. Courtesy Sierra High Blog.

On Tuesday, October 18th, Sierra High students had an opportunity to speak with a representative from the US Air Force. Students were engaged and asked great questions. Did you know that the Air Force has its own accredited community college program that accepts cadet’s basic training and tech training towards an Associate’s Degree, getting them halfway to a 2-year degree? Once the cadet is at a permanent duty station, they can finish their courses at the base. Courtesy Sierra High Blog.

(above) These 20 students were on time to school 100% of the time! These responsible students are reliable and dedicated to their learning! Quarter 1 is officially finished for Sierra High School! We are immensely proud of our students-they worked hard! There were 105 awards given. We were so thankful to have families join us to witness their student’s successes be rewarded. As a school, the students earned 1,540 credits in just 37 days of school! We celebrated our students with certificates and prizes. We are so grateful to our donors who helped gather the prizes. To top it off, it was the first day our students were able to get their lunch from the new food truck! Photos courtesy Sierra High Blog.

Last week Fillmore’s Rio Vista TK and Kinder students had a great field trip at the FHS School Farm as part of the Fillmore FFA hosted “Fall on the Farm” event where 450 students attended. The young students toured six different stations around the farm by FFA members. One included pumpkin science, picture taking, hay maze, and a tractor ride. They also got to pick their own special pumpkins to decorate and take home to share with their families. While going around and seeing the farm the kids got the opportunity to ask about the livestock animals and projects students have at Fillmore High School. FFA had a great time hosting the students and getting to be back after COVID. Fillmore FFA is excited to keep this an annual event to educate and give the younger generations a chance to try new things and be a part of an amazing program. Happy Fall! Courtesy Rio Vista Blog.
