Sheikh Ahmad al-Ghamidi caused quite a stir in Saudi Arabia, a nation with a history of oppressing women, when he declared on television that Islam does not mandate that women wear the niqab, or veil, and suggested females should use beauty products. He even allowed his unveiled wife to appear on television.

Saudi paper al-Watan said al-Ghamidi immediately received threats following their appearance on television. Al-Ghamidi said it was “spontaneous” and that he did not pressure the MBC station to allow him to air his unveiled wife. Al-Watan said senior scientists believe al-Ghamidi is wrong because a female’s face is “rougher” and therefore “may be vulnerable to abuse” because the man might be sick in the heart.

We’ve heard so much about the shooting of black teens by white cops in Ferguson, Dayton and St. Louis, but have you heard anything about the black city bus driver who helped organize a black mob attack of white family? Didn’t think you had.

Karen Murphy is black and was a bus driver in Baltimore. A white family of three got on her bus and she told them to move to the back of the bus. They told her that the back was already full. That’s when, according to the mother of the family:

AfghanistanHere is yet another indication of how foolish and wrongheaded American foreign policy is, how much it is based on false premises, and how it is doomed to failure after failure until it is either thoroughly overhauled or heads this nation into irreversible catastrophe. IRAQ-SECURITY/According to Islamic law, Muslim men can take “captives of the right hand” (Qur’an 4:3, 4:24, 33:50). The Qur’an says: “O Prophet! Lo! We have made lawful unto thee thy wives unto whom thou hast paid their dowries, and those whom thy right hand possesseth of those whom Allah hath given thee as spoils of war” (33:50). 4:3 and 4:24 extend this privilege to Muslim men in general, as does this passage. “Certainly will the believers have succeeded: They who are during their prayer humbly submissive, and they who turn away from ill speech, and they who are observant of zakah, and they who guard their private parts except from their wives or those their right hands possess, for indeed, they will not be blamed” (Qur’an 23:1-6).

Winter does his best to absolve Islam of any responsibility for inciting this barbarity, but it is getting tougher to do so all the time. He admits that the Islamic State uses Qur’an 5:33 (described moronically by the Independent or Winter below as a passage from “the fifth book” of the Qur’an) to justify crucifying people, but then says that the next verse mitigates the punishment. However, the next verse just says: “Except for those who return [repenting] before you apprehend them. And know that Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.” What if this boy didn’t return repenting? The learned Mr. Winter of the Quilliam Foundation doesn’t explain that, and the Independent doesn’t ask him to.
