Earnest moralists lament Americans’ distrust of government. What really is regrettable is that government does much to earn distrust, as Terry Dehko, 70, and his daughter Sandy Thomas, 41, understand.

Terry, who came to Michigan from Iraq in 1970, soon did what immigrants often do: He went into business, buying Schott’s Supermarket in Fraser, Mich., where he still works six days a week. The Internal Revenue Service, a tentacle of a government that spent $3.5 trillion in 2013, tried to steal more than $35,000 from Terry and Sandy that year.

Sandy, a mother of four, has a master’s degree in urban planning but has worked in the store off and on since she was 12. She remembers, “They just walked into the store” and announced that they had emptied the store’s bank account. The IRS agents believed, or pretended to believe, that Terry and Sandy were or conceivably could be — which is sufficient for the IRS — conducting a criminal enterprise when not selling groceries.

This is odd and surprising. It would seem most likely that the Pope wanted a secretary from the Islamic world to show his favorable view of Islam, and is unaware of Father Yoannis Lahzi Gaido’s previous statements. He will undoubtedly soon find out, however, if he hasn’t already, and what happens then will be interesting.

The Qur’an allows for the owning of sex slaves:

If you fear that you will not act justly towards the orphans, marry such women as seem good to you, two, three, four; but if you fear you will not be equitable, then only one, or what your right hands own; so it is likelier you will not be partial. (Qur’an 4:3)

This verse is the basis for Islamic polygamy, allowing a man to take as many as four wives, as long as he believes he is able to “deal justly” with all of them. But justice in these circumstances is in the eye of the beholder. Ibn Kathir says this the requirement to deal justly with one”s wives is no big deal, since treating them justly isn’t the same as treating them equally: “it is not obligatory to treat them equally, rather it is recommended. So if one does so, that is good, and if not, there is no harm on him.”

The verse goes on to say that if a man cannot deal justly with multiple wives, then he should marry only one, or resort to “what your right hands own” — that is, slave girls.

The Qur’an commentator Maulana Bulandshahri explains the wisdom of this practice, and longs for the good old days:

During Jihad (religion war), many men and women become war captives. The Amirul Mu”minin [leader of the believers, or caliph -- an office now vacant] has the choice of distributing them amongst the Mujahidin [warriors of jihad], in which event they will become the property of these Mujahidin. The most ominous and least-remarked aspect of this entire Benghazi fiasco is that the Obama wonks chose to cover up their arming of al-Qaeda in Libya, and the massive failure of their strategy that the Benghazi jihad attack epitomized, by blaming the Muhammad video. They were essentially saying that America’s First Amendment, our freedom of speech, is the problem, and that if we would just adopt Sharia blasphemy restrictions and stop saying things that Muslims might find offensive, all would be well.

A security guard. This was a man who was put in a position of trust, and who was assumed to be someone who supported the presence of American doctors in Afghanistan, and wanted to protect them from jihadists. Instead, he turned out to be a jihadist himself. Yet when I have stated the quite obvious truth that there is no distinction between peaceful Muslims and violent jihadis, i.e., peaceful Muslims have not pronounced them non-Muslims and put them out of mosques and Islamic authorities have not declared that those who believe in the Islam of al Qaeda and other groups like it is not a Muslim, I’m smeared as a “bigot” and an “Islamophobe.” Perhaps those who hired this security guard could explain to us exactly what that distinction consists of.

The Citizens Commission on Benghazi, a self-selected group of former top military officers, CIA insiders and think-tankers, declared Tuesday in Washington that a seven-month review of the deadly 2012 terrorist attack has determined that it could have been prevented – if the U.S. hadn't been helping to arm al-Qaeda militias throughout Libya a year earlier.

'The United States switched sides in the war on terror with what we did in Libya, knowingly facilitating the provision of weapons to known al-Qaeda militias and figures,' Clare Lopez, a member of the commission and a former CIA officer, told MailOnline.

Britain is finished; it is a nation of the walking dead, unless it affects a drastic change in its leadership and prevailing political culture, and soon. (Of course, the same could be said of the U.S.) Here Jack Straw, of all people, asserts that there is a British culture that Muslims must accept, and dares to criticize the imposition of Sharia into British public schools that were the focus of the now-notorious Muslim “Trojan Horse” plot. Straw even ventures to say, no doubt with trembling, timid voice, that some of those values were “Christian based.” But when David Cameron says that Britain is a “Christian country,” non-Muslims (not Muslims) complain; those non-Muslims will make sure that nothing effective is ever done to stop the assertion of Sharia in British schools and elsewhere.

This is clearly a gesture of supremacism. Imagine the uproar if a Christian had entered a mosque and begun to read from the New Testament and pray Christian prayers. But no one will take any notice of this. Western authorities take Islamic supremacism for granted. In light of the fact that Mohammed Whitaker’s father’s name is Edward, it is likely that he is a convert to Islam. And he may be yet another convert to Islam who has somehow misunderstood his new, peaceful religion. Whitaker’s sniper attacks against drivers on the highway recalls the Beltway jihad sniper attacks of John Allen Muhammad in the Washington area. Still, this may not be jihad. It may be that Mohammed Whitaker is a “right-wing extremist,” driven mad by his reading of Whittaker Chambers. If it is a jihad attack, the mainstream media will do its best to cover up and obfuscate that fact, or downplay and ignore it if it is indisputable.

Kansas City police used tips about an erratic driver, a fingerprint from a plastic bag of shell casings and a bullet from a house that was shot last year to link Mohammed Whitaker, 27, to a series of recent highway shootings.

Jackson County prosecutors on Friday announced 18 felony charges against Whitaker involving nine separate shootings. Two of the charges relate to cases where victims were wounded. Seven cases involve shootings where victims were not hit.

Feminists and others on the Left are usually very good at “outrage,” especially when it can be expressed on behalf of what they believe is an oppressed group. Which is why it is both surprising and disappointing that they missed two amazing opportunities recently to be rightly outraged on behalf of women both in America and internationally.

Apparently they didn’t see the decision by the University of Michigan to ban the screening of “Honor Diaries,” a film featuring women’s right’s activists from all over the world taking on the issues of forced marriage, child marriage, female genital mutilation, and other forms of “honor” violence. It also appears they were unaware of the decision by Brandeis University to rescind its invite to Ayaan Hirsi Ali—a woman who has committed her life to fighting atrocities happening around the globe to women and young girls—to receive an honorary degree and speak at its commencement in May.

A senior police officer was murdered, his pregnant wife (28) seriously wounded and one of their sons (9) was lightly wounded right before the Passover holiday by Arab terrorists who shot them as they were on their way to the holiday festivities. The deadly attack occurred Monday afternoon on highway 35, west of Hebron.
A civilian who was in one of the cars who were shot at told Tazpit News Agency he saw one terrorist firing at them. “He kept on firing and missed. We hit the gas and got away. We saw police on the way and notified them. We then met soldiers and bloxked the road so no one else would get hurt,” he said/
The IDF is still searching for the terrorists. There are reports of an arrest made in connection with the attack.

PM Netanyahu blamed the Palestinian Authority for the attack, saying it is a result of their incitement. Minister Uri Ariel (Bayit Yehudi) said that every terrorist release emboldens the terrorists, and demands the government cancels all future releases, and makes the cancelling of any PA steps at the UN a precondition to continuing any peace talks.

Yesha Council spokesman Yigal Dilmoni told Tazpit News Agency that he links this latest attack directly to the release of terrorists by the Israeli government as part of the peace negotiations with the PA. ”The Israeli government is currently engaging the Palestinians in an attempt to get them back to the negotiations table. While we are debating the release of tens of terrorists for no reason, there are those who view this as a sign of weakness: the terror organizations who are trying to resurge and re-enter the dark times during which the citizens of Israel feared to leave their homes. Since the beginning of the latest round of talks with the PA, during which terrorists were released, terrorism has been on the rise. 4 Israelis were murdered during 2013, after which during 2012 there were no negotiations and Israel had no casualties at all. We are at the beginning of 2014 and again the terror is responding to PA incitement and its demand of mass release of terrorists, harming an Israeli family on its way to the Seder. We must not succumb to the reckless demands made by the Palestinians.”

Yochai Damary, Head of the Hebron Hills Regional Council in which the attack occurred, pointed out the absurd of the situation, as he views it: “The terrorists executed his attack in broad day light, with no fear. Now the security forces, in an effort to capture the terrorists, are making a house to house search. This is absurd! Our soldiers are risking themselves to catch terrorists who may later be released in the next deal. This ridiculous situation must be stopped. I call on the prime minister and minister of defense not to be satisfied with verbal condemnations and exact a political price for the blood spilled. The terrorists’ objective was to take life and the response should be to add life in our region by declaring sovereignty, building and bringing more Israelis. This is the response to such a heinous crime. This response must be immediate and will deter terrorists from such actions in the future. This is our response to terror – to add life”

This is by no means an eccentric or unorthodox view in Islam. The Egyptian Sheikh Abu-Ishaq al-Huwayni declared in May 2011 that “we are in the era of jihad,” and that as they waged jihad warfare against infidels, Muslims would take slaves. He clarified what he meant in a subsequent interview:

…Jihad is only between Muslims and infidels”¦.Spoils, slaves, and prisoners are only to be taken in war between Muslims and infidels. Muslims in the past conquered, invaded, and took over countries. This is agreed to by all scholars–there is no disagreement on this from any of them, from the smallest to the largest, on the issue of taking spoils and prisoners. The prisoners and spoils are distributed among the fighters, which includes men, women, children, wealth, and so on.

There is no justification for murder. Wasila Umaru’s desperation, however, points up child marriage as the serious human rights abuse that it is.

And it has abundant justification in Islam. As I explained in detail here, few things have stronger attestation in Islamic law than the permissibility of child marriage. Islamic tradition records that Muhammad’s favorite wife, Aisha, was six when Muhammad wedded her and nine when he consummated the marriage. One congressman is pushing for a pay hike.

Rep. Jim Moran (D- Virginia) wants Congress to start offering lawmakers a housing stipend. Any lawmaker whose home is further than 50 miles from the Capitol would be eligible for a $25 day stipend when Congress is in session. By Moran’s math, that would total $2,800 per lawmaker who accepts the stipend annually.

Moran’s argument is the high cost of living in D.C. is hurting less affluent people who want to run for Congress. “Don’t we want it to make financial sense for a 30-something physician, district attorney, city council member or small-business owner, who maybe has a new home mortgage, young children, or unpaid student loan debt, to serve in Congress?” he said in a statement. “Federal elected office shouldn’t be limited just to those who are financially independent and do not have to give thought to paying out-of-pocket for living expenses while in D.C.”

Within the context of keeping the Syrian jihad alive, it seems there is no end to the attempts of some Islamic clerics to legitimize otherwise forbidden behavior in order to gratify the sexual urges of the jihadis and keep them fighting Syrian president Bashar Assad.

First, there was the now infamous “sex-jihad” fatwa, which holds that any Muslim woman who willingly allows her body to be used by the sexually-deprived jihadis becomes herself a jihadi, if not a “martyr,” deserving of all the honor and rewards associated with those titles. (Much has been written about the sex jihad, including videotaped testimonials—and how one teenage girl, after copulating with countless jihadis, got pregnant and contracted aids—even as pro-Syrian war Western entities like Foreign Policy try to deny it.)

Another fatwa permitted the jihadis in Syria to enslave and rape any non-Sunni women—including Alawites (Assad’s sect), Christians, Druze, and all Shia—in the context of their status as melk al-yamin or “right hand possessions,” per Koran 4:3 (a verse that permits the enslavement and sexual use of conquered “infidel” women).
