On Monday, February 6th, San Cayetano School recognized good citizenship and character at their Peacebuilder Assembly for the month of February. Paula Phillips from the Right Road Kids, came to speak to the students about what a good citizen is, believing in yourself, “I can do it”, and how respecting others is important. She shared how we can be good citizens to help our school and community. Each teacher chose a student from his or her class whom showed excellent character and respect during the month. Hailey Avila and Bryan Arnett, the San Cayetano ASB President and Vice-President assisted Mrs. Phillips in handing out the Peacebuilder Awards. The Peacebuilders for February are: Michael Santoyo, Venice Aparicio, Makayla Balboa, Dorian Foster, Nathan Delgadillo, Irvin Rodriguez, Gabriel Gomez, Alexander Adame, Aleena Castañeda, Luke Hernandez, Alexis Rosales, Anateresa Jimenez, Noelani Sanchez, Moises Martinez, Aiyanna Simental, Alejandro Rodriguez, Diana Perez, Ulany Valencia, and Hailey Carrillo. Mrs. Phillips then announced the San Cayetano Character Counts Award of a $100.00 savings bond sponsored by the John Paul Pet Foundation. She presented the Character Counts Award to a deserving kinder student. Michael Santoyo was chosen by the kinder teachers as a model of kindness and respectfulness to the other students and school community. Each month all students who come to school, each day, on time, are given a raffle ticket. The students place their tickets in a box and one ticket is drawn. The student whose ticket is drawn is given a NASA backpack with the book Max Goes to the Moon in it. This month’s Perfect Attendance winner is Angelina Delgadillo from room 10. Each month, the tickets will be put into a larger box that will be kept until the end of the year. In June, Mrs. Lee, the principal, will draw from the tickets to give away two new bicycles.

Each teacher chose a student from his or her class whom showed excellent character and respect during the month. The Peacebuilders for October are: John-Quentin Hernandez, Izabelle Estrella, Della Alamillo, Cynthia Valecillo, Andrea Laureano, Yulisa Lopez Sajardo, Miranda Magaña, Jazmin Patiño, Juan David Linares, Emilia Magdaleno, Evan Alamillo, Noah Montañez, Samantha Cabral, Cesar Magaña, Abby Sanchez, Dylan Crawford, Lilian Diaz, Wendy Carrillo, and Michael Priebe. Bring Your Tupperware, Grandma Lou is Baking Cinnamon Rolls

The annual Fall Harvest Festival/Carnival will be at San Cayetano on Thursday October 27, 2011. The time of this event will be from 5-8PM. We are fortunate to have the Wells Fargo Foundation once again sponsor this community event. The proceeds from the event will support all for elementary schools in Fillmore and Piru. The funds generated from the cinnamon rolls will be split between the local fire and police departments for their annual holiday toy drive! High school students will be donating time for community service hours. This fun event will feature games , lots of prizes and food booths. Come join the fun!!!

On Monday, September 12th, 2011, San Cayetano School recognized good citizenship and character at their Peacebuilder Assembly for the month of September. Captain McGrath, Chief of Police for the City of Fillmore, came to speak to the students about what a good citizen is and how respecting others is important. She shared how we can be good citizens to help our school and community. Each teacher chose a student from his or her class whom showed excellent character and respect in the month of September. Aliza Ayala and Brian Arnett, two San Cayetano students assisted Captain McGrath in handing out the Peacebuilder Awards. The Peacebuilders for September are: Bryan Hurtado, Isaiah Hernandez, Damian Flores, Christopher Hernandez, Nathan Torres, Elisabeth Mercado, Viririana Carrillo, Marissa Diaz, Jaron Foy, Miguel Valdez, Kayla Priebe, Alyssa Ocegueda, Ty Wyand, Janeah Castro, Brianna Sanchez, Daniela Chavez-Hernandez, Carlos Hernandez, Hailey Avila, Eva Vieyra Saldana, and Kirah Collins. Captain McGrath then announced the San Cayetano Character Counts Award of a $100.00 savings bond sponsored by the John Paul Pet Foundation. On Monday, May 9, 2011, San Cayetano recognized good citizenship and service for at their last Peacebuilder assembly for the 2010-2011 school year this month. Carol Peterson, a Forest Ranger and Education Coordinator for the Channel Island National Park came to San Cayetano to speak to the students about what a good citizen is and how displaying good character could enrich the students and others in the community around them. During the day before both assemblies, Carol Peterson went to each third grade classroom to speak to the students. She does an animal habitats and endangered species program, especially dealing with the Island Fox. A radio call out to one of the program’s fox technicians was also included in the third grade presentations. There was also a connection made to the program that ran a live bald eagle nest cam. Ms. Peterson spent about an hour in each of the third grade classrooms interacting with the students. The students enjoyed her visit. Before the assembly each teacher chose a student from his or her class whom showed excellent character and peace-building skills. ASB President, Cali Wyand,and Vice President, Lizzie Castaneda assisted Ms.Peterson in handing out the Peacebuilder Awards. The Peacebuilders for May are: Brissia Lopez, Nick Tejeda, Anthony Acosta, Miranda Magana, Paige Ramirez, Angie Suarez, Alexander Adame, Arissa Ramos, Natalia Zamora, Monique Stone, Gilbert Villanueva, Angel Paniagua ,Hailey Cummings, Daniella Piceno , Fatima Zamora, Jakob Fabian, April Navarette, Ashley Alvarez, Nathan Martinez, and Jairo Rios. Lizzie then announced to the students that John Paul Pet is sponsoring the San Cayetano Character Counts Award of a $100.00 savings bond. Ms. Peterson presented the Character Counts Award to a deserving First grade student. Jazmin Patino, from Mrs. Laureano’s class, was chosen by the First grade teachers as a model of outstanding behavior and kindness to the other students. To conclude the assembly, students were reminded to turn in their Perfect Attendance tickets. Each month all students who come to school, each day, on time, are given an orange raffle ticket. The students place their tickets in a box and one ticket is drawn. The student whose ticket is drawn is given a backpack full of supplies. Each month, the tickets will be put into a larger box that will be kept until the end of the year. In June, Mrs. Marholin, the principal, will draw from the tickets to give away new bicycles, an I-pod shuffle, and three large stuffed animals. Daniel Cerna from Mrs. Dewey’s class won the Perfect Attendance Award for the month of May.

 
Mrs. Swensen’s first grade class received a scientific treat when Erin Mulholland, a doctorate student from UCSB, came to share her scientific knowledge of “Sea Squirts” and conduct a Dry Ice Bubble Experiment with the class. The students were able to learn about the Scientific Process with their bubble experiment and hold squishy sea squirts too.
