PATRIOTIC OBSERVANCE: May
Congratulations to the following students who received Ventura County Community Foundation Scholarships. This organization is one of the
largest providers of scholarship to the students in the county. They gave a total of $60,860 to Fillmore High School Students. Elizabeth Amezcua,
Taylor Atkins, Alani Barajas, Jonathan Escamilla, Alexandra Garcia, Natalie Garnica, Rebeca Herrera, Susie Lopez, Maricarmen Magana, Carlos
Tarango and Jillian Wilber.
LUNCH: Enchilada casserole, Spanish rice, salad.
ATHLETICS:
1. BASEBALL – AWAY @ Oak Park. Games begin at 3:30PM. Teams are excused from class at 1:00PM and will depart FHS at 1:30PM.
2. SOFTBALL - AWAY @ La Reina. Games begin at 3:30PM. Teams are excused from class at 1:15PM and will depart FHS at 1:30PM.
3. ATHLETES / PEP SQUAD: PHYSICALS - Dr. Bautista will be offering FREE PHYSICALS for Athletes and Pep Squad Members that
need one to participate in summer practice. This is also a good time for Athletes participating in any Fall Sport, (Football, Cross Country, Girls
Volleyball & Girls Golf). Physicals will be given WEDNESDAY, MAY 20TH beginning at 3:30PM.
CLUBS:
1. ART CLUB - meets today at lunch in Room 34.
2. ATTENTION UC AMBASSADORS! We will hold a lunch meeting on Tuesday, May 12th in Room 61 to discuss the fundraiser and to elect
officers for next year. See you there! Mrs. Palacio and Ms. Moriarty.
3. One Step Programs: Tonight at 6:30 - Senior Parent Night - a program based on helping seniors and their families adjust to college life.
Dinner and child care provided. Tonight at 5:00 - Stress Relaxation class. On Wednesday there is a new nutrition and healthy living class at
3:30 and Yoga starts at 5
4. Mentor Program: After school mentoring today at Mt. Vista -be there by 3:30pm.
5. Fashion Club – MANDATORY meeting Wednesday at lunch.
6. Mecha Club – important meeting on Thursday at lunch for next year’s officers.
SENIORS:
1. A financial aid representative from Ventura College will be available in the old career center on Monday, May 18th from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. If
you need to see them or submit paperwork, please see Mrs. Larin to sign up. If you do not sign up, the representatives will be unable to assist
you.
2. The California of Veterans Affairs offers a program to college bound students that are dependent children of Service-Connected Disabled
Veterans. For complete details, see Mrs. Larin in the College and Career Center during break or lunch.
9th-11th grade students:
1. If you are planning to take Ventura College classes during the summer or fall semester, a counselor from Ventura College will be in the College
and Career Center on May 12th during lunch to register you. Make sure you have all your paperwork ready!
STUDENTS:
1. Night School (with Mrs. Ashim and Ms. Schieferle) will end Thursday, May 21st. No work will be accepted after that date. If you started a
class and have not finished, take this opportunity to complete your credits.
2. ASB Members – The Grad Nite Live Donation Cans are due on May 15th.
3. FFA is sponsoring a blood drive on Thurs. May 14th . If you are 16 years of age and older you may donate. Pick up parent permission slip in
the health office and return to Janice by Friday May 8th
4. CAHSEE (Exit Exams) will take place TODAY, 5/12, (ELA), and Wednesday, 5/13, (Math), for seniors that have not passed one or
both exams and sophomores that were absent for the March exams. Testing will take place in room 49. Lists of who will test each
day will be posted on the attendance windows.

1. Congratulations to CHRISTINA BAHENA & VINCE FERGUSON for winning the 1st Annual Fillmore Film Festival! Both students picked up their
prizes on Friday – Brand new laptop computers from Element Computers!!!!! Students – start working up some good ideas for next year!

1. OUR ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT NEEDS YOUR SUPPORT and encourages you to join the FHS AHTLETIC BOOSTER CLUB. This group
supports athletics for all of the athletic teams featured at the High School. Without an active and support driven Booster Club, we cannot
improve, introduce, or even maintain existing athletic programs offered at Fillmore High School. Please consider serving as a Booster Club
board member for the 2009/2010 term. An election to select next year’s board will be held Monday, May 11 at 6:30 P.M. at Fillmore High

is May 25th.
3. Motion Picture Industry Joint Apprenticeship Committee will be accepting applications for apprenticeships in the occupation of Heating,
Ventilation, and Air Conditioning Mechanic from May 11th through May 15th.
4. Rosetta Stone Scholarship Contest is available to students who have learned English as a second language. Students must also be
planning to attend an accredited college or accredited trade school and be U.S citizens, legal residents or have official work or student visas.
You must write an essay in which you address the following question: “How learning English as a second language impacted your life”. See
Mrs. Larin or go online to www.rosettastone.com/scholarship.

Ventura County, please follow these good health habits: Avoid close contact with people who are sick. Stay at home
when you are sick. Cover your mouth and nose with tissue or your sleeve when you cough or sneeze (not your hands).
Wash your hands often during the day. Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth.
