On 8-13-09, Thousand Oaks Police were called to the 300 block of Wynn Court for a suspicious vehicle. Upon the arrival of deputies, they found Jesse Israelson and a 17 year old juvenile inside the vehicle, sleeping. During the contact, Thousand Oaks Police conducted a search that revealed stolen property, which included several Ipods, GPS devices, cell phones, digital cameras, jewelry, wallets, credit cards, and pain medication.

Follow up investigation by Thousand Oaks Detectives determined the stolen property belongs to several victims of thefts from motor vehicles. These victims reside in the City of Thousand Oaks as well as the Oak Park area and Agoura Hills.

Investigators determined the subjects would comb the neighborhoods, on foot, checking for unlocked car doors. It is estimated they entered at least one hundred vehicles in the past few weeks and stole items from a majority of those vehicles.

Both subjects were arrested for possession of stolen property. The juvenile was cited and released to a parent while Israelson was booked at the East Valley Jail.

The Thousand Oaks Police Department wants to remind the public to remove valuable property from their vehicles when left unattended, and secure all the doors and windows.

On 7-25-09, two quad riders left the Ballinger Canyon campground for a short ride up the canyon. By sunset the riders had not returned and their friends called 911. Two resident deputies from the Ventura County Sheriff's Department Lockwood Valley Station were sent to investigate. After learning the circumstances of the quad riders disappearance, the deputies called for the Sheriff’s Rescue helicopter and Search and Rescue ground units.

The helicopter arrived on scene first and began a search. Using night vision goggles and a Nite Sun, they located one of the quads abandoned on a trail approximately five miles from the campground. A search of the immediate area did not locate either one of the missing riders.

After refueling at the Lockwood Valley Station, the helicopter returned to the area. They located the second quad about a mile down canyon from the first quad. It too was abandoned on the side of the trail and neither of the riders could be located. Due to flight time limitations, the copter returned to quarters after relaying GPS coordinates. On 07/02/2009, Sheriff’s investigators accompanied employees of the Ventura County Humane Society, Ventura County Animal Regulations and Ventura County Code Enforcement to a residence in the 12000 block of Clinton St., Moorpark, Ventura County, as the result of a report of Cruelty to Animals at a dog breeding facility conducting business as Golden Meadows Kennels. The business is owned and operated by Tim and Barbara Hoke. The report and video that accompanied the report depicted puppies being housed in crates so small they could not stand or turn around for 12 to 15 hours a day. It also depicted grown dogs with open wounds and reports of mistreatment of dogs. Officers at the location observed puppies in small crates left in the sun. The puppies could not stand or turn around in the crates and did not have access to water. Adult dogs did have open wounds but were being cared for by employees of the business. The business was found to not possess a conditional use permit as required by County Code Enforcement. Tim and Barbara Hoke were issued citations as a result of the findings by County Officials.

On 07/07/2009, Barbara Hoke initiated a grand theft report. Barbara Hoke stated that several employees had stolen puppies from the location when they resigned on 7/2/2009, shortly after law enforcement’s response. An investigation into these allegations determined them to be false. Information received from employees was that a working agreement had been reached between Barbara Hoke and one of the employees for the upkeep of two of the dogs reported stolen. One of the puppies reported as being stolen reportedly had been given to an employee as a gift. CONTINUED »
