Location: Thousand Oaks, Ca (S)uspects, (V)ictims, (W)itnesses Address Age After a two-week investigation, two juveniles were arrested by Thousand Oaks Police Detectives for stealing valuables out of unlocked, parked vehicles. The crimes were occurring in residential areas and apartment complexes during the day, and at night. After the thefts, the juveniles would take credit cards they had stolen and use them at local stores and at stores in the San Fernando Valley. The juveniles arrested were on probation for committing similar crimes. At the time of their arrest, they were also found to be in possession of numerous items of stolen property taken from recent thefts in the Thousand Oaks area. Several pieces of electronic equipment, credit cards and backpacks were among the items in their possession. Both juveniles were arrested for multiple felony charges related to the recent crimes. Thousand Oaks Police would like to remind residents to lock their vehicles and take valuables inside their homes to reduce the risk of theft. |

Location: Camarillo Police Department On September 15, 2009, the Camarillo Police Department will begin its twenty-first citizen’s academy program. It’s a twelve-week course designed to give citizens an overview of the police department’s function and operational procedures. There will be presentations by a superior court judge, K-9 officer, S.W.A.T. team members, bomb squad, narcotic officers, and many others. Participants will also have the opportunity to meet Camarillo’s station captain and get a comprehensive tour of the police station. There will be field trips to the Pre-Trial Detention Facility (main jail) and juvenile hall, Sheriff’s dispatch and the crime lab, the Sheriff’s Training Academy, and heliport. Participants will also go on a ride-along with a patrol deputy. Anyone interested in attending the Citizen’s Academy can get an application at the Camarillo Police Station. Potential candidates must be at least 18 years of age, live or work in the Camarillo area, have no felony convictions, and no misdemeanor convictions within one year of applying. Classes will meet on Tuesday evenings beginning September 15. 2009, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM for twelve weeks and will be held in the community room at the Camarillo Police Station. Location: Parking lot of The Sportsman Restaurant, 4462 Central Avenue, Camarillo Suspects: Address: Age: On 8/19/2009, a female victim approached the entrance of the Sportsman Restaurant in Camarillo when she was contacted by a male subject who demanded her car keys. The two struggled briefly and the suspect managed to gain control of the keys while pushing the victim to the ground. The victim sustained minor injuries as a result of the assault. There was no weapon used in the assault. The suspect then fled in the victim’s vehicle, which is described as a tan 2001 Toyota Camry, California license 4SWN838. The suspect is described as a white male, tan, short blonde hair, 5-10 to 6 feet and slender build. The suspect was wearing blue jeans and a gray sweatshirt. The preliminary investigation indicated the suspect might also be involved in a stolen vehicle incident in Camarillo on 8/18/09. Anyone with suspect information can call the Camarillo Investigations Bureau at 388-5100. Location: City of Thousand Oaks Date & Time: 8-18-09 Unit Responsible: Internet Crimes Against Children Unit (S)uspects, (V)ictims, (W)itnesses Address Age In January of 2009, the Thousand Oaks Police Department’s Internet Crimes Against Children Unit executed a search warrant at David Teal’s residence in Newbury Park. Law enforcement was searching for child pornography. During an undercover investigation using “peer to peer” file sharing software, Detectives identified Teal as downloading and possessing child pornography. Teal’s computers and digital storage devices were seized. The Southern California High Tech Task Force conducted a comprehensive forensic examination of all the items seized. Hundreds of child pornography videos and images were located on Teal’s computers and digital media. An arrest warrant was issued for Teal’s arrest. The Internet Crimes Against Children Unit arrested Teal at his residence without incident today (August 18, 2009). Teal was booked into the Ventura County Jail. Bail was set at $50,000. |

Location: 200 Block of Gardenia Avenue, Camarillo CA, (S)uspects, (V)ictims, (W)itnesses Address Age On August 04, 2009 at approximately 3:15 PM, a resident of the 200 block of Gardenia Avenue in the unincorporated area of Camarillo, reported to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department that he was the victim of an assault. The victim stated he was home alone when a suspect entered his home through an open door. The suspect, described as a male Hispanic, between the ages of 15 and 18 years old, brandished a large knife and threatened to harm the victim if he did not comply with his demands. During an altercation with the suspect, the victim was injured with a sharp object. The victim was transported to a local hospital, treated for minor injuries, and released. After a search of the residence, the victims reported miscellaneous items missing from their residence. An extensive search for the suspect utilizing the Sheriff’s helicopter and numerous deputies was conducted. On August 11, 2009, a possible suspect was taken into custody for an unrelated matter and booked at the Juvenile Justice Center. The Sheriff’s Department Major Crimes Bureau is investigating this incident. |

Location: Calleguas Creek Wash Area, Upland and Creekside Road, Camarillo, Ca Date & Time/ RB#: August 13, 2009, at about 0830 hours Unit Responsible: Patrol On 8-13-2009, around 7:30 am, Camarillo Police Department responded to a possible mountain lion sighting in the Calleguas Creek wash between Upland Road and Creekside Road. A woman was walking in the creek area when she reported seeing what appeared to be a mountain lion. Police checked the area and nothing was found. Fish and Game and Ventura County Animal Control were notified of the incident. No other sightings have been reported. |

Location: 14000 Block of Avenida Colonia, Moorpark (S)uspects, (V)ictims, (W)itnesses, Address, Age On 08/08/2009 at about 11:00 A.M., sheriff’s deputies assigned to the City of Moorpark were dispatched to the 14000 block of Avenida Colonia after Amtrak reported their eastbound Metrolink train had struck a person on the railroad tracks. Upon arrival, deputies discovered the body of Alfredo Aguilar, 70 years, approximately 300 yards west of Virginia Colony Place. Family members were contacted and advised that Mr. Aguilar had left his residence to take a walk. How or why he was walking on the railroad tracks is unknown. Information received from the train conductor revealed that Mr. Aguilar had apparently fallen on the railroad tracks and was unable to rise in time to avoid being struck by the train. Amtrak reported that their train #774 was traveling from Camarillo to Simi Valley at about 60 miles per hour with 190 passengers on board, at the time of the collision. There were no reported injuries to anyone on the train. The tracks were re-opened at about 2:05 P.M. The Ventura County Medical Examiner’s Office responded and took custody of the body. |

In today’s society, children have several obstacles, bad influences, and distractions. Raising children is not easy. Children sometimes engage in harmful behaviors fueled by negative influences including alcohol, substance abuse, drugs, gangs, and peer pressure. In furtherance of our commitment to the community, the Thousand Oaks Police Department will be offering a parenting class on Wednesdays for ten weeks starting on August 26, 2009. Parents with difficult, defiant, or problematic children are encouraged to attend. Our goal is to give parents guidance to develop more successful children. We are excited to offer these sessions and truly wish to support parents and offer strategies to deal with difficult children. The course content consists of ways to address substance abuse, drugs, sex, gangs, poor grades, running away and violence. Additional content includes guidance in gaining children’s compliance of house rules, how to never argue with your child again, and how to use other parents for support. Locations: Santa Rosa Rd – Verdugo Way, Camarillo (S)uspects, (V)ictims, (W)itnesses, City of residence, Age Members of the Sheriff’s West County Street Narcotics Enforcement Team concluded a 2-week investigation into cocaine sales occurring in Thousand Oaks. Investigators received information that Luis Vera was selling cocaine from his residence in the 600 block of Glen Oaks in Thousand Oaks. On July 29, Vera was observed in a parking lot at the intersection of Santa Rosa Road and Verdugo Way, Camarillo, conducting what appeared to be a narcotics transaction. When contacted, Vera was found to be in possession of five ounces of cocaine. The subsequent search of his residence revealed an additional three ounces of cocaine and a small amount of methamphetamine. Street value of the cocaine is estimated at $10,830.00. Suspects Delgado, Pacheco-Lopez, and Medina were arrested during the transaction for conspiracy to sell cocaine. All suspects were booked into the Main Jail. |

Location: Bank of America 2012 E. Avenida De Los Arboles, Thousand Oaks Three masked men stormed into the Bank of America on Avenida De Los Arboles Wednesday evening, ordering customers and employees to the floor. Nobody was injured during the heist, and all three men fled the bank within minutes carrying off an undisclosed amount of cash. At least one of the suspects was armed with a handgun. The investigation is being handled by the Sheriff’s Department’s Major Crimes Unit in conjunction with the FBI. Location: Ballinger Canyon, Ventura County, Ca. (V)ictim, City of residence, Age: On 7-25-09, two quad riders left the Ballinger Canyon campground for a short ride up the canyon. By sunset the riders had not returned and their friends called 911. Two resident deputies from the Ventura County Sheriff's Department Lockwood Valley Station were sent to investigate. After learning the circumstances of the quad riders disappearance, the deputies called for the Sheriff’s Rescue helicopter and Search and Rescue ground units. The helicopter arrived on scene first and began a search. Using night vision goggles and a Nite Sun, they located one of the quads abandoned on a trail approximately five miles from the campground. A search of the immediate area did not locate either one of the missing riders. After refueling at the Lockwood Valley Station, the helicopter returned to the area. They located the second quad about a mile down canyon from the first quad. It too was abandoned on the side of the trail and neither of the riders could be located. Location: 12000 block of Clinton St., Unincorporated area of Moorpark, CA (S)uspects, (V)ictims, (W)itnesses, Address, Age On 07/02/2009, Sheriff’s investigators accompanied employees of the Ventura County Humane Society, Ventura County Animal Regulations and Ventura County Code Enforcement to a residence in the 12000 block of Clinton St., Moorpark, Ventura County, as the result of a report of Cruelty to Animals at a dog breeding facility conducting business as Golden Meadows Kennels. The business is owned and operated by Tim and Barbara Hoke. The report and video that accompanied the report depicted puppies being housed in crates so small they could not stand or turn around for 12 to 15 hours a day. It also depicted grown dogs with open wounds and reports of mistreatment of dogs. Officers at the location observed puppies in small crates left in the sun. The puppies could not stand or turn around in the crates and did not have access to water. Adult dogs did have open wounds but were being cared for by employees of the business. The business was found to not possess a conditional use permit as required by County Code Enforcement. Tim and Barbara Hoke were issued citations as a result of the findings by County Officials. On 07/07/2009, Barbara Hoke initiated a grand theft report. Barbara Hoke stated that several employees had stolen puppies from the location when they resigned on 7/2/2009, shortly after law enforcement’s response. An investigation into these allegations determined them to be false. Information received from employees was that a working agreement had been reached between Barbara Hoke and one of the employees for the upkeep of two of the dogs reported stolen. Location: Shell Service Station, 905 North Ventura Avenue, Oak View (S)uspects, (V)ictims, (W)itnesses Address Age On July 25, 2009, deputies assigned to the Ojai Police Department arrested 27-year-old Matthew Schumacher in connection with a hate-motivated crime that occurred earlier that morning at the Shell Service Station located at 905 N. Ventura Avenue in Oak View. Schumacher is a documented member of the white supremacist gang “Skin Head Dogs.” Additionally, Schumacher is tattooed with several white supremacist related tattoos, including a tattoo that depicts a derogatory statement toward African Americans on the back of his head. At the time of Schumacher’s arrest, a probation search revealed he was in possession of white supremacist related paraphernalia and weapons. Based on information obtained during the investigation, an unprovoked Schumacher aggressively approached an African American female and a white male near the Shell station’s gas pumps. Schumacher proceeded to make racial slurs to the interracial couple before battering the male. After knocking the male to the ground, Schumacher fled the area. |

Courtesy of the Santa Paula Police Department On July 26, 2009, at approximately 11:39 am, officers responded to a apartment located in the 400 block of Ojai Road following up on a report of a brandishing. The victim had reported he had an argument with a subject, later identified as Anthony Aguirre, age 23 of Ventura. During the argument Aguirre removed a shotgun from his waistband and pointed it at the victim. Upon arrival at the apartment officers observed Aguirre leaving the rear of the residence. Officers then took Aguirre into custody. Additional subjects did come out of residence however they were refusing to cooperate with officers on scene and mutual aid was requested. Officers from California Highway Patrol as well as Ventura County Sheriffs Department responded to assist. In the area at the time was a Ventura County Sheriffs Department helicopter who also assisted. Once those subjects were removed a search of the residence was conducted. The search revealed Martin Pulido, age 42 of Oakview on active parole for possession of a controlled substance for sales, hiding underneath a bed. Recovered in the residence was a loaded sawed-off shotgun, a .32 caliber handgun, ammunition for both weapons, and syringes used for ingesting illegal controlled substances. The victim, who was on scene, identified Aguirre as the suspect who brandished the shotgun at him. The victim also said just prior to officers arrival Aguirre had brandished the shotgun a second time. Aguirre was transported to the Ventura County Main Jail on the following charges: brandishing a firearm, convicted felon in possession of a firearm, convicted felon in possession of ammunition. Aguirre also had two active felony warrants for assault with a deadly weapon and possession of stolen property. Pulido was transported on a parole violation, convicted felon in possession of a firearm and convicted felon in possession of ammunition. |

The mental and physical challenges have always been met with specific goals in mind. As they focus on their next milestone, their primary purpose has been to raise money and awareness for local medical charities. This Saturday will be another moment for the team to fulfill its commitment to the community by presenting a $5,000.00 check to the ALS Association. The presentation will take place during the 5th annual Strike Out Lou Gehrig’s Disease All Star Baseball Tournament championship game to be held at California Lutheran University’s Sparky Anderson Field. The Greater Los Angeles Chapter of the ALS Association, the national champion Conejo Valley Little League, and the Thousand Oaks Little League will co-host the tournament, which will take place July 23-26, 2009 in Thousand Oaks. “It is a privilege for us to be a part of this event by contributing to such an important organization,” said Captain Randy Pentis, who leads the team of sheriff’s deputies, who have run on nearly every continent. Location: Parking Lot of Ralph’s Supermarket, 674 N. Las Posas Road, Camarillo, CA Suspects, Address, Age: On July 25, 2009, at approximately 9:00 PM, the Camarillo Police Department responded to a call of an “attempt carjacking.” The victim reported he had parked his vehicle in the parking lot of Ralphs Supermarket. As the victim was getting out of his vehicle, two male Hispanic suspects approached him. One suspect had a semi-automatic handgun and the other suspect had a knife. The suspects demanded the victim give them the keys to his vehicle. The victim refused and struck one of the suspects in the face. The victim was then struck in the face by one of the suspects. The victim was able to get away from the suspects and call for help. The suspects immediately fled the area on foot and have not been identified or located. The victim sustained a laceration to his face during the struggle. The victim did not require medical attention at the time. At this time there are no known witnesses to this crime. The Camarillo Police Department is asking anyone with information or who may have witnessed this crime to contact either Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS (8477) or the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department Major Crimes Unit at 805 477-7000. |

Eight law enforcement agencies and more than a dozen restaurants have teamed-up during the year in support of Special Olympics Ventura County. “Tip-A-Cop” nights are designed to invite the public to a dining experience filled with fun, entertainment, and a chance to meet their local law enforcement agencies. Tips for the evening become tax-deductible donations to Special Olympics and provide athletic training and competition to more than seven hundred (700) intellectually disabled children and adults, ages 8 years and up. All activities are free of charge to the athletes. Athletes participate in fifteen sports at more than forty training sites throughout Ventura County. Highlights of this year’s evening include: McGruff the Crime Dog for kids to meet and get suggestions for safety, Sheriff Department police cars to look at, and an opportunity to meet deputies who will answer questions and provide information to the public. In addition, kids will receive free junior deputy stickers! Ventura County Special Olympic athletes will also attend to help serve food, talk with guests about how Special Olympics is important to them, and sell Torch Run T-Shirts. The athletes are eager to display their medals of achievement and share their recent experiences at Special Olympics events.
