Police ask anyone with information to contact them
 Ventura County Sheriff's Department A man robbed the Citibank branch located at 974 S. Westlake Blvd Thursday afternoon. The man approached one teller and demanded cash. The man then went to a second unsuspecting teller and demanded cash from that teller. After receiving an undisclosed amount of money, the man exited the bank and was last seen running across the parking lot north of the bank. No one was injured during the robbery. Witnesses described the suspect as a white male in his late 20’s. He was wearing a dark colored sweatshirt, dark colored hat and sunglasses. Ventura County Sheriff's Department On 02/15/2013, at approximately 5:00 PM, Camarillo deputies responded to a disturbance call, in the 100 block of Gardenia Ave. Deputies made contact with a 46 year old male subject at the residence, identified as John Patrick Hail. As deputies were talking to Hail from a distance, he became uncooperative, retreated back into the residence, and refused to open the door. Deputies also learned that a female subject was inside the house as well. Deputies tried to re-contact Hail without success, and secured the scene. In the past, deputies have responded to numerous disturbance calls at the residence, including once earlier in the day. They were aware that Hail had been acting irrationally and that he was also wanted on a misdemeanor narcotics warrant. The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team and Tactical Negotiations Unit responded to the scene. The Tactical Negotiations Unit made contact with Hail and was able to determine that the female subject inside the residence was his mother. After several hours of negotiating, deputies determined that there did not appear to be any threat towards the mother. Instead of forcing a confrontation, deputies removed themselves from the situation and cleared the area. At approximately 4:54 AM this morning, deputies assigned to watch the residence observed Hail walk out, get into a vehicle and drive off. Hail initially failed to yield to lights and sirens and led deputies on a low speed pursuit to the City of Oxnard. He eventually yielded at Rose Avenue and Gonzalez Road, where he was taken into custody without further incident. He was booked at the main jail for the warrant and misdemeanor evading. Hail’s mother was unharmed. The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office used the VC Alert system at the beginning and conclusion of this incident, to provide information to residents in the area. Ventura County Sheriff's Department The Thousand Oaks Police Department would like to warn the residents of an increase in residential burglaries. In recent weeks, we have seen an increase in burglaries in the area of Erbes Road, between Sunset Hills Road and Avenida De Los Arboles. The burglaries are being committed during day and evening hours. The thieves are using unlocked doors to enter the residences. The items being targeted are jewelry and electronics. The Thousand Oaks Police Department is recommending residents keep valuables in a safe place and document serial numbers. We would also like to remind residents to keep their doors locked, especially when they are not home. SAN FRANCISCO - Attorney General Kamala D. Harris expressed her condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the Riverside police officer who died in the line of duty today: “This officer's death is a senseless loss,” Attorney General Harris said. “His service and sacrifice will never be forgotten. Our hearts go out to his family and friends, and to the Riverside Police Department.” The 34-year-old officer died this morning in the city of Riverside. His name is not being released while the search for the suspect continues. |

Ventura County Sheriff's Department Camarillo Special Enforcement detectives received information that Thomas Long and Melody Knoblauch were using and possessing Methamphetamine at their residence in the upscale-gated community of Sterling Hills in the 2800 block of Diamond Drive in the City of Camarillo. After a three-month investigation, a search warrant was obtained for Long, Knoblauch and their residence. On 02/07/2013, detectives conducted a search of Long and Knoblauch’s residence where a quantity of Methamphetamine, Marijuana, and prescription narcotics were found. Investigators also located a shotgun inside the residence. Long was a prohibited felon in possession of a firearm under California state law. Ventura County Sheriff's Department Detectives concluded a two-month investigation into an attempted robbery that occurred on December 20, 2012. Two male suspects attempted to take two bicycles from two victims at the North Oaks Coin Laundry. During the robbery, one of the suspects brandished a knife. The victims struggled with the suspects, with the suspects eventually leaving without the victims’ bicycles. The incident was captured on surveillance video. The investigation led the detectives to the two suspects. On February 6, 2013, detectives from the Thousand Oaks Special Enforcement Gang Unit served search warrants at both suspects’ residences. Detectives located property linking both suspects to the crime. Both suspects were arrested for 664/211 PC – Attempted Robbery and lodged into the Ventura County Juvenile Justice Facility. Ventura County Sheriff's Department On 2/5/2013, the Sheriff’s Office narcotics unit concluded a two month investigation of a Moorpark resident who was selling marijuana from his residence. The investigation led to the arrest of Alexander Marvin, age 19. Information was received from the Moorpark Police investigative unit that Marvin was illegally selling marijuana from his residence and possibly to high school students. Sheriff narcotic detectives initiated an investigation which led to the arrest. At 5:45 p.m., narcotics detectives detained Marvin after observing him conduct several illegal drug transactions within the city of Moorpark. Detectives searched Marvin’s person and discovered marijuana packaged for sale and proceeds they suspect were from the illegal transactions. A search warrant was served at Marvin’s residence located at the 12000 block of London Grove Court. During the search of the residence, detectives located additional marijuana, a small amount of cocaine, a large sum of currency determined to be proceeds from the illegal sales, and evidence that Marvin was actively involved in the illegal sales of marijuana. Marvin was arrested and booked into the East County Jail for possession of marijuana for sale. Additional charges are pending as this investigation is continuing. Ventura County Sheriff's Department On 02/04/13, the Camarillo Police Department received numerous calls of shots being fired in the area of Barry and Fulton Streets. Deputies responded to the area and learned a 22 year old male victim had been injured as a result of the shooting. The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he was treated for his injury and released. The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Bureau and Crime Scene Investigation Unit responded to the scene as well. The Camarillo Police Department and Ventura County Sheriff’s Office is asking that anyone who may have witnessed or has information related to this crime, to please contact Sergeant John Gleason @ 805-384-4727. Ventura County Sheriff's Department On February 11, 2013, family members and friends of inmates currently incarcerated in the Ventura County Sheriff’s Jail facilities will have the ability to correspond with the inmate electronically. The Sheriff, in partnership with Ventura County Information Technology Services Department (ITSD) will launch the “email an inmate” program. This fee-based service, developed by Ventura County ITSD staff, will provide another option for communication between inmates and members of the community. Inmates currently receive postcards from family and friends, in addition to magazines and books directly from the publisher. There is no restriction on legal or governmental correspondence. The email program was designed to provide a contemporary and efficient means for information to be shared with an inmate. The email will be printed and delivered to the inmate; however the inmate will not be able to respond electronically. Inmates are able to contact members of the community via US Mail in the form of postcards, letters, greeting cards, or by telephone, or weekly visits. In the initial phase of this program, only text will be allowed. Each email has a maximum of 4500 characters (equivalent to one page). The emails are available in quantities of : Each inmate may receive 5 emails per day, per sender. The revenue generated from this program offsets the operational costs and credit card processing fee associated with program delivery. All revenue exceeding the operational costs is deposited into the Inmate Welfare Fund (IWF) Trust account. By law, the IWF Trust exists for the sole purpose of funding education, vocation, recreation and reentry programs for the inmate population. Members of the community who are interested in sending an email to an inmate may do so via the Sheriff’s website, www.vcsd.org. Once the inmate’s record has been located, the community member will be able to click on the button “email” and register their billing and contact information and send the email. SAN FRANCISCO, CA - Attorney General Kamala D. Harris today filed a lawsuit against one of the nation’s major credit rating companies for inflating its ratings of structured finance investments, which caused California’s public pension funds and other investors to lose billions of dollars. The complaint, filed today in San Francisco Superior Court, alleges that the McGraw-Hill Companies, Inc. and Standard and Poor’s Financial Services LLC violated the False Claims Act and other state laws by using a ratings process based on what senior executives described as “magic numbers” and “guesses.” “For years, S&P placed its priority on maintaining its market share, instead of the investors who trusted in its supposedly objective ratings,” said Attorney General Harris. “When the housing bubble burst, S&P’s house of cards collapsed and California paid the price—in billions. S&P must be held accountable for its conduct that contributed to one of our country’s worst financial crises.” Investors relied on S&P and its competitors to rate these securities because they had access to only general descriptions of the assets backing their investments, which often included mortgages. California’s public pension funds also relied on S&P because they are often required to buy securities that received a coveted “AAA” rating, signaling that the investment was top-tier and bore minimal risk. Ventura County Sheriff's Department On 01/11/2013, Deputies from the Camarillo police station conducted a traffic enforcement stop on an Acura sedan in the city of Camarillo and identified the driver as Baldomero Alamillo. While talking to Alamillo, the deputies smelled an odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. During a search of the vehicle, a loaded semi-automatic handgun and additional ammunition was located. A records check on the handgun revealed Alamillo was not the registered owner. The deputies attempted to locate the registered owner of the handgun, with negative results. During the investigation, Camarillo Special Enforcement Detail detectives located and contacted the registered owner of the handgun. The owner of the handgun told investigators that the handgun that was recovered from Alamillo’s vehicle, along with three other firearms and property were stolen sometime in 2008; the other three firearms were not recovered by our investigators. On 02/01/2013, deputies from the Camarillo Special Enforcement Detail (SED) and the Ventura County Sheriff’s Gang Unit (SGU) served a search warrant at Alamillo’s residence in the city of Santa Paula. A search of Alamillo’s vehicle and residence revealed Alamillo was in possession of marijuana and cocaine, along with corresponding evidence indicating he is involved in narcotic sales. Two additional firearms and ammunition were also located and seized as evidence. Alamillo was arrested and booked at the Ventura County Main Jail for PC 496(a)-Possession of Stolen Property and H&S 11351-Possession of a Controlled Substance for Sale. Ventura County Sheriff's Department The City of Thousand Oaks has experienced a recent increase in thefts of property from vehicles and open garages. The suspects in these cases have targeted both unlocked cars with items in plain view, and open garage doors that allow easy access. On February 1, 2013, the Thousand Oaks Police Department’s Special Enforcement Unit received information from a reliable source that (S) Tommy Gonzales was in possession of numerous items that were stolen from vehicles and open garages during the past month. Information was also received that (S) Gonzales was receiving this stolen property in exchange for cash and/or drugs. On February 2, 2013, the Special Enforcement Unit served a search warrant at (S) Gonzales’ residence with the assistance of the Thousand Oaks Police Department’s Investigative Bureau and Patrol Services. Numerous items of stolen property were located at the residence and the investigation is continuing as to who the rightful owners are. It is believed the stolen property is primarily from the Newbury Park area within the City of Thousand Oaks. During the investigation (S) Gonzales and (S) Ramos admitted to receiving the stolen property from other persons. While searching the residence detectives located evidence that indicated (S) Gonzales was in possession of marijuana for sale, and in possession of controlled substances for sale. The investigation revealed that (S) Gonzales and (S) Sevilla have two children together; a 4-year-old boy and a 6-month-old boy. Due to the children’s access to the contraband, the drugs and/or drug paraphernalia, and the exposure of the children to persons selling stolen property and/or purchasing drugs at the residence a DEC (Drug Endangered Children) investigation was initiated. Ventura County Child Protective Services Agency was requested to respond to the location. Child Protective Services conducted their own investigation and ultimately took the two children into protective custody. (S) Gonzales was arrested for four felony counts: 273a(a) PC – Child Endangerment, 496(a) PC - Possession of stolen property, 11351 H&S – Possession for sale of a controlled substance, and 11359 H&S – Possession for sale of marijuana. He was booked at the East County Jail on $50,000.00 bail. (S) Sevilla was arrested for one felony count: 273a(a) PC – Child Endangerment. She was booked at the Pre-Trial Detention Facility on $50,000.00 bail. (S) Ramos was arrested for one felony count: 496(a) PC – Possession of stolen property. He was booked at the East County Jail on $10,000.00 bail. The Thousand Oaks Police Department would not have located these suspects without this crucial tip from the public. LOS ANGELES, CA - Attorney General Kamala D. Harris today filed lawsuits against two international apparel manufacturers for gaining an unfair competitive advantage over American companies by using pirated software in the production of clothing imported and sold in California. The companies, based in China and India, did not pay licensing fees for software, including products manufactured by Adobe, Microsoft, Symantec and others. The complaints allege that the foreign apparel manufacturers who have not paid software licensing fees have a significant cost advantage in the low-margin business of apparel manufacturing, shipment and sales. “Companies across the globe should be on notice that they will be held accountable in California for stealing our intellectual property,” Attorney General Harris said. “This is an anticompetitive practice which harms our state’s economy and is illegal. These lawsuits go after overseas companies whose unlawful actions are eroding California’s garment industry and placing California companies who legally pay for computer software at a disadvantage.” The lawsuits, filed!--break--> in Los Angeles County Superior Court, charge Pratibha Syntex Ltd. of India and Ningbo Beyond Home Textile Co. Ltd., and its sister companies, of China with violating California’s Unfair Competition Law. Since 2010, the Ningbo Companies shipped approximately 713,000 pounds of apparel products into California. Pratibha has shipped more than 19,000 pounds into the state. Ningbo Beyond Group exports men’s suits, blazers, coats and jackets, as well as fleece cargo pants, fleece jackets and caps to California. Pratibha Syntex exports women’s cotton tops and other clothes for men, women, and children. The complaints also allege that these companies obtain an unfair advantage because they can redirect money saved by using pirated software to hire employees and to expand their facilities and their research and development efforts. Furthermore, American companies that are developing software, particularly software that is used in the garment industry, are discouraged from investing in new technology and products if they know their software will be used illegally. California’s apparel manufacturers, which are largely based in Los Angeles County, employed more than 580,000 people last year and generated more than $5 billion in annual revenues since 1990. In 2010, the industry employed 40,872 workers in Los Angeles County, which accounts for nearly 70 percent of the industry’s workforce in the state. A study by the Orange County Business Council found that California has lost nearly 400,000 manufacturing and technology jobs over the past decade to countries where piracy rates are as high as 80 percent. This activity has resulted in a loss of $1.6 billion in economic activity and $700 million in tax revenue for California. SANTA ROSA, CA - Attorney General Kamala D. Harris today announced the arrest of three suspects who have been charged in a mortgage fraud scheme targeting struggling Northern California homeowners. Six websites allegedly used by the suspects to advertise their scheme have been intercepted and redirected to a resource page on the California Attorney General’s website. The felony complaint alleges that Ronald Vernon Cupp, 58, of Santa Rosa, deceived homeowners by falsely advertising a way to “kill” their mortgage debt on six websites including www.wekillyourmortgage.com. Cupp was assisted by Randall Gilbert Heyden, 69, of San Rafael, and Angelle Wertz, 38, of Santa Rosa, a public notary who allegedly certified phony legal documents. Cupp allegedly recorded fraudulent documents, which would only delay a foreclosure, not actually satisfy the preexisting mortgage debt. “Vulnerable California homeowners thought they were working to save their homes but were actually the victims of a fraudulent scheme,” Attorney General Harris said. Ventura County Sheriff's Department Over the past few months, Sheriff’s Ojai Patrol Deputies and Narcotics Investigators have received a steady stream of information of criminal activity surrounding a residence in the 4100 block of North Ventura Ave, in the unincorporated county area north of the City of Ventura. Patrol deputies had received several calls describing drug use, fights, and other incidents that disturbed the public peace. On 1-25-2013, at about 0800 hours, Narcotics Detectives executed a search warrant at the residence and contacted Tina Rogers and Anthony Maxwell. Subsequent to this investigation, it was determined Rogers was selling heroin and methamphetamine from her residence. Detectives located approximately 2 grams of heroin, syringes filled with heroin, and approximately 1.5 grams of methamphetamine. Numerous used syringes, narcotics and other paraphernalia were found in Rogers’ bedroom that she shares with her nine year old child. Rogers was arrested for possession of heroin and methamphetamine for sale, under the influence of a controlled substance, and felony child endangerment. Maxwell was arrested for being under the influence of a controlled substance. Both were booked into the Sheriff’s Main Jail. The child was released to the Ventura County Child and Family Services. Charges include possession of a stolen gun, under the influence, possession of methamphetamine, conspiracy to illegally transfer/sell firearms
Ventura County Sheriff's Department During the first two weeks of January 2013, detectives with the Sheriff’s Gang Unit began investigating the illegal transfer/sale of firearms by several individuals in Fillmore. Detectives obtained a search warrant for two residences in Fillmore, one in the 1300 block of Blue Jay and the second in the 700 block of 5th St. On 1-17-13, at about 1000 hours, the Sheriff’s Gang Unit, with assistance from the Fillmore Police Department detectives, served the search warrant. Detectives located several firearms, one of which had been reported stolen. Four individuals were arrested at the scene and subsequently booked at the Main Jail. Arthur Escoto was booked for possession of a stolen gun, prohibited person in possession of a firearm, and under the influence while in possession of a firearm. Martin Gaspar was booked for a felony warrant and for being under the influence of a controlled substance. Daniel Cervantes was booked for being under the influence and for being in possession of drug paraphernalia. Jasmine Medina was booked for being in possession of methamphetamine and for being under the influence of a controlled substance. Escoto and Cervantes were additionally booked for conspiracy to illegally transfer/sell firearms. Ventura County Sheriff's Department Nature of Incident: “Hot Prowl” Burglary Suspect Arrested On January 22, 2012, Camarillo Patrol deputies were dispatched to the 2100 block of Farnworth Street, in the city of Camarillo for a burglary in progress. The victim reported hearing someone ring her doorbell, but did not answer it. The victim later saw the suspect attempting to open the rear sliding glass door to the home. When the suspect saw that someone was home, he fled the area. The victim was able to observe the suspect retreat into a nearby home. Deputies arrived on scene and immediately searched the area. They located (S) Demetrius Ford in the residence the victim saw him run into. Ford lived at the home he was located in. The victim positively identified Ford as the suspect she saw attempting to open her back doors. Ford was transported and interviewed at the Camarillo Police station. While at the police station, Ford was able to slip off his handcuffs and ran out of a rear door at the police station. Ford was immediately pursued by the arresting officer and apprehended outside of the police station. Ventura County Sheriff's Department At 0528 hours, today’s date, Sheriff’s Dispatch received a 911 call involving a 58 year old male subject, who was threatening to commit suicide with a gun. The subject was inside a residence with his girlfriend. Camarillo deputies were dispatched to the residence, in the 1600 block of Pierside Lane. Deputies began to acquire additional information about the incident and requested the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office SWAT and Tactical Negotiations Unit to respond. At approximately 0854 hours, the incident came to a successful conclusion, and the suicidal subject was taken into custody. Nobody was injured as a result of this incident, and the subject was taken for a Mental Health evaluation. Residents in the area were alerted to the incident through the use of the “VC Alert” system. Ventura County Sheriff's Department John Strumpfler was arrested for residential burglary on 1-17-13. A Newbury Park resident returned home after running an errand and interrupted the burglary. Strumpfler fled the residence when he was discovered and the homeowner gave chase. The homeowner was able to detain Strumpfler in the 3500 block of Bear Creek Court and call 911. Strumpfler still had several items of the homeowner’s property in his possession when he was detained. Strumpfler was booked on one count of residential burglary, and his bail has been set at $50,000.00. The Thousand Oaks Police Department would like to remind citizens to secure their residences prior to leaving home, even if only leaving for a short period of time. We would also like to remind residents to report all suspicious activity or persons in residential neighborhoods.
